How is elementary school organized in Canada? Studying in Canada: features of the education system School education in Canada

"Letidor" sometimes comes out interesting articles(For example, my). I came across an interesting story about a Canadian school. If I had been there, I would have written the same thing. At the end I wrote what can be applied here. Read especially the end - everything is sorted out there, just like I did in the old days.

Canadian school education is ranked 6th in the world.

The education system in Canada is heterogeneous and also varies from province to province. At the provincial level, many laws are passed regarding the functioning and financing of schools, their responsibilities and rights, and so on. But in reality general view The structure of the school world looks like this:
- Comprehensive schools(the same free general education, which we know well)
- Catholic schools. The most common religion in Canada. Several centuries ago, Canada created the Catholic education system that still exists today. In such schools, children are taught both ordinary subjects and religion.
- Private schools. By paying for education in private schools, in return, parents get the opportunity to choose both a “bias” (Montessori, sports) and a “select society” for their children - this certainly only includes children from families with above-average income, and a number of others "bonuses" like wearing school uniform, school cafeteria, etc.
- Home schooling also possible, but not very common. Add to this the fact that Canada is a bilingual country; Each of these types of schools is possible in a variant where the main instruction is in English, and French is studied as a second language, and vice versa.

How is training organized?

In a Canadian school, there are several common stages along which students move:
- "Preschool" called Kindergarden. Children are admitted here when they are less than five years old, and are educated for two years, after which they go to first grade. Studying at this time is 100 percent “playful learning.”
- Primary school, grades one to six.
- Secondary school, 7-8 grades.
- High school, 9-12 grades.

As a rule, during his studies, a Canadian schoolchild changes three buildings: in the first he studies from classes at Kindergarden up to the 6th grade, in the second students of grades 7-8 are collected, and in the third the most the hard part studying at a Canadian school until graduation. But the student changes classes, teachers and classmates every year. In a Canadian school, classes are formed anew every year, so during their studies the student has time to get to know literally everyone.

There is no registration system in Canada, but it is determined by place of residence which one goes to school your child. Each school has its own place in the provincial ranking (depending on how well students wrote tests in core subjects this year). Higher rating - more expensive than a house in the area that is “assigned” to this school.

The photo shows a typical Canadian elementary school building. Two (sometimes one) floor, Canadian flag at the entrance. The area around (the boundaries are marked) is school property. In Canada, these are not empty words: just as the owner is obliged to take care of his “land,” so the “stranger” is obliged to follow the rules. For example, you cannot go and play in the school playground, or take a shortcut through the school field, or ride a bicycle - for greater safety, you will need to walk with your bicycle nearby.

Unfortunately, a typical phenomenon for Canadian schools is “trailers”. When classrooms can no longer accommodate students, part of the classes are conducted in trailers like these. Well-equipped, of course, with sewerage and heating. The parents are still not too happy, but the children are okay, for them it’s like an adventure.

Another typically Canadian way to optimize student placement is through "double" classes: for example, a 1/2 or 3/4 class. In such groups, children from two classes study at the same time - from the older one everything in a row, from the younger - those who can “pull” more independent learning. The teacher gives the same material part of the time, and two parts of the time. different programs, but the main difference is in the work that children do; There are fewer requirements for juniors.

Primary school classes start at 9:10 am and end at 3:30 am. Every morning, a long line of backpacks is lined up near the entrances to the school: students are allowed into school only when the bell rings. Considering that there are usually 5-6 entrances, there is not much fuss.
Where it is crowded and noisy is in the school corridors: there are hangers for clothes and backpacks, boxes for replacement shoes. An elementary school student takes only a diary with him to class (and sometimes a favorite toy; elementary school children are allowed).
In the classroom, everywhere you look there are posters, drawings, visual aids. The walls are used one hundred percent.

The floor is a space for playing and building complex structures (children often build either a super-city or a miracle monster with the whole class). In the classrooms for “preschoolers” there are no desks at all - several tables with chairs, and many “stations” for games - there is a computer with game programs, and a corner of “nature” - they grow plants, watch ants or snails, and a large container with sand , where you can pour water and tinker around to your heart's content, developing fine motor skills.

In older classes, desks appear, but the student sits at it only when he needs to write. For discussion, the teacher most often gathers the children in a circle - they sit on the floor with their legs crossed, and he sits in a comfortable rocking chair nearby.

What and how do they teach in Canadian schools?

Every morning starts with the Canadian anthem (everyone is standing, but you can sing along) and a school radio broadcast. Then school begins. Subjects are usually combined into clusters: for example, in “science” lessons they study physics, chemistry, biology, while the word “art” hides classes in drawing, modeling and computer graphics. From the first grade, schoolchildren study " Social sciencies“- and if social studies and history begin closer to the middle classes, then already a first-grader in Canada knows how important it is to wait your turn, share with friends, and correctly sort garbage for reuse.

Very large part educational process devoted to the art of presentation. The quality of the project and the ability to talk about it in front of the class are assessed. You can use any means of expression.

The Canadian version of “what girls and boys are made of” - presentations in French about who loves what.

There is also a lot of sports in Canadian schools. Sports activities - three to four days a week. This includes traditional physical education (in cold weather - outside), and a variety of sports games: in just one year, a student can try himself, for example, at badminton, football, baseball, tennis and dancing.

What can definitely be envied is the equipment of local schools. As an example - in the photo - a room of completely ordinary Canadian music high school in a small town.

Canadian school is fun. Rarely does a week go by without some special event. Either a public holiday, or a large-scale school holiday (for example, a school anniversary or a play/concert staged by the entire school), or even just Pajama Day. On this day, everyone, both students and teachers, comes to school in pajamas, favorite slippers and hugging pillows, blankets, and toys. There is Hat Day and Favorite Book Character Day.

But the beginning of the school year, by the way, does not apply to holidays. School in Canada begins on the first Monday of September, after Labor Day, and there is no trace of any special outfits or bouquets for teachers. By the way, they finish their studies here much later - usually in the last week of June.

Before classes start on the first day of school

Socialization, involvement in communication and teaching the rules of conflict-free cooperation generally mean at least as much in local schools as academic grades themselves. How well or poorly a child studies is the concern of him and his parents. The concept is this: the teacher gives knowledge, and how much the child “took” depends on his/her desires and capabilities. In Canada it is generally not customary to criticize, and schools are no exception; The teacher's report card at the end of the quarter and year is in an envelope - thus, only the student and his parents can view it, and the children themselves absolutely do not focus on how well or poorly their classmates are studying.

Canada is a country of immigrants, and therefore the appearance at school - even in the middle of the school year - of a child who does not speak a word of English is quite common. The mechanism has been worked out to the point of automaticity: a portion of questionnaires for parents to fill out, a “friend” for a new student (usually selected from schoolchildren who speak the same language as the newcomer). At first, the main occupation of a “student” (that’s what students are called in Canada) is mastering the language; therefore, he spends approximately half of his entire teaching time not in regular classes, but in ESL - English as a Second Language classes. As a result, even children who begin to learn a language from scratch begin to communicate more or less fluently after a few months.

Is there a fee for free training?

Let's do the math. At the beginning of the school year, parents of primary schoolchildren are given a list of wishes for what is needed for school. Usually this is an office - you can keep it under 20 dollars. You need to partially compensate for the cost of excursions, this is from 5 to 15 dollars for each. A beautiful color diary called a planner costs 10 dollars - it plays the role of a diary here.
Everything else is really on a voluntary basis. There is no form. You can buy a T-shirt with the school logo, but it is not required. Buying school lunches is also optional, but almost all parents pay to ensure their child gets their own pizza and milk on the weekly “pizza day.” Photo days are held regularly at school, but again, it’s up to you to buy out the photos (and at the end of the year, a yearbook, that is, an album as a keepsake, or skip it.

In Canadian public schools, children bring their own food. Special lunch boxes come in a thousand and one variations: for example, this one from the photo is “environmentally friendly”: all the food can be put into compartments without using packaging.

For supporters of ensuring that the child eats hot food - thermoskis: there is enough heat until the moment when the student sits down for a snack.

Somehow, in Canada, the involvement of the school in the life of the entire society is especially strongly felt. The Canadian school is the furthest from the principle “Don’t go to someone else’s monastery with your own rules”: schoolchildren live in the same rhythm with what is happening around them. There was the Olympics - and in all Canadian schools, children discussed who played and how, counted medals, and cheered “for ours.” Also, guests often speak at classes. “State employees” - police officers, firefighters; animal defenders - they come to class with a mini-zoo. As a result of “integrity with society,” Canadian teachers behave completely differently. The current Canadian teacher (among them, by the way, there are many men) is quite a sociable friend who “takes” not by status, but by the fact that he (or she) knows a lot, teaches the subject in an interesting way and skillfully manages the learning process.

As is the case throughout Canadian society, volunteerism plays a big role in local schools. As a rule, Canadian families have children one after another, two to three years apart. Mom - if the financial situation of the family allows - stays at home until the youngest of them goes to first grade. So the mothers of Kindergardeners are the most frequent volunteers. They help at home (preparing play dough, for example), at school (sorting, organizing, folding), and in the classroom during activities - for example, reading with children or helping to solve problems. And of course, volunteers are simply irreplaceable at outdoor events.

Visit to the farm - look at the animals and place bets on the pig race

In the warm season, such “forays” take place once a month, or even more often. Fascinating - children's eyes light up - trips to the theater, library, farm or zoo, fire station or hospital - are accompanied by mini-lectures on how everything works, as well as “what is good and what is bad.”

CONCLUSION

What can be used with us:

- developed private schools (if parents have money, then why not organize an individual approach for the student, useful clubs and activities, good equipment. In the regions this is a pressing problem, since there are rich people, but there are no quality schools)

Primary School up to 6th grade(at the age of 11, children are not yet ready to move to secondary school, where they are left to their own devices. Therefore, our teachers treat them like little kids for a couple of years. And then teenagers get used to it. I believe that as they grow older, teachers should change, so that children don’t get used to it)

- mixing by class every year(useful for both leaders and losers (I don’t know the synonym in Russian))

- closed area(they walked our dogs. And my 2 bikes wouldn’t have been stolen at the school’s doorstep if it had been fenced)

— starts at 9:10 (I had it at 8:30. This is terrible. I would have done it at 10:00, since schoolchildren would not burden public transport, it’s already light in winter, sleep longer)

- use walls to the maximum(it’s more beautiful and useful for schoolchildren)

- sit on the floor(we already have them sitting in Samara. On linoleum. If they made carpet, it would be great to relax during breaks)

“From the first grade, schoolchildren study “social sciences” - and if social studies and history begin closer to the middle grades, then already a first grader in Canada knows how important it is to wait his turn and share with friends.”

- many projects and presentations(many of us cannot speak in front of people at all or talk on the go)

“Socialization, involvement in communication and teaching the rules of conflict-free cooperation generally mean at least as much in local schools as academic grades themselves.”

- events and invited people(to diversify the educational process)

P.S. It would seem that, simple tips, but even the implementation of these points (quite sound and suitable for Russia) can radically change school education in the country. And judging by Unified State Exam results, it really needs serious changes.

Tell your friends. This is very important for me: it encourages me to write more posts.

A country

Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia. Canada occupies 1/12 of the Earth's landmass, stretching from east to west for 5.5 thousand km, and from north to south for 4.6 thousand km, while the population is only about 32 million people.

The density of people is quite low. After two weeks of living in Canada, a gathering of more than 5-6 people in one place already seems to us something unusual.

Canada has two official languages - English and French.

According to the UN. Canada is recognized as the best country in the world to live based on a combination of the most important criteria ( general level life, ecology, education, etc.).

Society

Canada is very social services developed, they have developed assistance programs for all occasions.

There is no “assignment” of a specific house to a specific medical institution, so everyone is free to choose their own family doctor

In Canada, you can lose something, then return and find your item safe and sound. someone else's own accepted respect.

People

Personal space person accepted respect. Getting close to a stranger - coming too close, pestering, showing aggression or crying into your vest is not accepted. Polite attitude accepted(some of our emigrants say that in Canada they have a sense of security).

The people here are friendly, but they don’t insist on communication: if you want to find company, please, if you don’t want to, live on your own, fortunately long distances between houses allows you not to be an eyesore for each other.

Canadians are tolerant and calm.

Canadians know how to relax with pleasure, they value their free time and spend it relaxing.

In Canada, it’s been ingrained since kindergarten, they teach you to report about suspicious characters and incidents on the street.

Everyone's friend called by name, regardless of the difference in age, official position, and are generally very friendly to each other.

Family

Canada is very feminism is strong. Canadian experts call women's desire for independence one of the main reasons for the breakdown of many families. It is significant that in 20% of Canadian families children grow up with one parent

Canada's birth rate remains one of the lowest among advanced industrial countries.

Traditionally, abortion is not very encouraged. In general, in Canada you may encounter some difficulties if you need to terminate a pregnancy.

The average age of women getting married is 26 years.

Men, as a rule, help in raising children and running the household; the main burden still falls on women.

Preschool education

Corporal punishment is prohibited. By carrying out corporal punishment in public you are at great risk, because... you may be reported, and then the police will get involved.

Even corporal punishment neighbors don’t see it, there is a risk that their own child will complain about the parent. It happens that teenagers pawn their parents or blackmail them by pawning them.

In Canada prohibited leave children unattended up to 12 years.

Attitudes towards children in Canada are such that many parents really cannot cope with raising children. There are different ways to get out of the situation. For example, there is a practice of hiring nannies (including from other countries) for permanent job– with accommodation with a Canadian family.

Something like the main Canadian guide for parents on parenting without violence is the book: “1-2-3 Magic. Effective Discipline for children 2-12”, Thomas W. Phelan, Ph.D. In short, the point is this. The child's behavior is divided into negative(“stop”) and positive("start"). To prevent negative behavior, the 1-2-3 method is used. To encourage positive behavior, the following is used: praise; simple requests and demands; kitchen timer; promotion/cut; drawing up tables, diagrams, graphs; natural consequences and variations 1-2-3

Method 1-2-3: The idea is that when the parent loses control of the situation and is overwhelmed with emotions, instead of punishing the child or yelling at him, etc. (which is considered unacceptable) he begins to count out loud (in an icy voice). “One” (long pause). The child continues to misbehave. “Two” The child continues to misbehave. “Three” The countdown can be up to 3 or 5. If the child still does not obey, the parent applies punishment. The essence of punishmentdeprivation of attention on the part of an adult + loneliness - deprivation of the opportunity to communicate with friends. Variations may be different, it all depends on the situation.

Features of the education system

Education system

School education is free for Canadian citizens. Foreigners have to pay for their child's education in a Canadian school.

According to the Canadian Constitution, education is the responsibility of local authorities. Those. the system may differ from county to county.

Among Canadian educational institutions there are both state, so private. They provide approximately the same quality of education, but the curriculum may differ.

The strength of the country's schools is the high availability of computers (the best indicator in the world). Canadian schools are also ahead of all others in the number of machines connected to the Internet.

Private schools

The choice of private schools is very large - with separate or coeducational education for boys and girls, with full board or only daytime education, etc. But

There are relatively few private schools in Canada and they have quite high competition- there are schools where children are enrolled even before they are born.

The main attraction of private education: the small number of students per class and individual approach to the students.

Features of study

Children go to first grade at the age of 6. Education in primary (grades 1-6, 6-12 years old) and secondary school (grades 7-12, 13-18 years old)

The school year in Canada begins in the first week of September and ends in the last week of June.

Parents in Canada can for their children choose training program at their own request, they can even invite teachers to their home, they can educate them as they see fit.

Universities

Canada has highest level of post-secondary education and is the second country in terms of university education.

Canada is famous not only for its academic programs, but also for its optimal combination of study and practice. In this country, so-called cooperative programs (co-op) are very developed, meaning that students, without stopping their studies, do internships in Canadian companies, gain the necessary practical experience and earn money. At the exit, university graduates receive not only a good education, which is highly rated in the world, but also a very useful entry in the resume. Internship is possible not only while studying at a university, but also within the framework of certification and diploma programs.

Canadian Curricula are flexible. A student can choose a basic course in any subject. If he excels in one subject, he can take an advanced course and get a higher degree.

Principles of schooling

Educational process

The academic year is divided into two semesters.

Subjects are studied in blocks: the first semester - the first four subjects, the second - the remaining ones. That is every day the same four lessons By 75 minutes every.

The list of items varies depending on the class. Available mandatory subjects (mathematics, language) and many subjects optionally.

Grades are given as percentages. For example, 50-60% is approximately equivalent to a “three”, 65-75% is a “four”, 80-90% is close to “excellent”.

Based on the grades received in all subjects, it is calculated GPA(percent). To transfer to the next year you need to score more than 50%. If the average score is more than 80%, then you can receive an exemption from the exam and a certificate (Honorable Roll).

During the semester, control is carried out by writing written works (assignments). In some subjects (mathematics, English) exams are held in the middle of the semester, in others - only at the end of the year.

Typically, exams are held in writing. This is either a test with questions on the material covered, or writing an essay.

Each exam is given 1.5-2 hours. Topic statements can be communicated in advance so that students can prepare. However, you are not allowed to bring anything to the exam itself. Cheating is severely punished.

The final grade consists of several - for written works, taken during the semester; for a personal project; for the exam. If the subject is studied successfully, one or two credit units are awarded for it.

To receive a diploma, you need to collect a certain number of such units. A prerequisite is also voluntary work as a volunteer in the interests of the community (in the library, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.).

In the twelfth grade, final exams are taken. Based on their results, a certificate from the relevant province is issued.

Other

Considerable attention is paid independent work . Each student prepares a personal assignment (Independent Study Project, ISP), within which he must collect information on a given topic and write an essay. He presents the results of this work in the form of an oral presentation to the class.

At school, they focus not on the best, but on average, and even weak- so as not to offend anyone, and this is exactly the other side of such upbringing, although there are also schools for gifted children, where education is delivered differently.

The school has special consultant, with whom any student can discuss their plans and next steps. They give presentations on when and what needs to be done, and distribute booklets with university requirements.

Many graduates demonstrated a very weak level of preparation, especially in mathematics and natural sciences.

According to official statistics, about a third of high school students leave school without completing the required period of study. At the same time, a well-developed system of state courses in general and vocational education allows everyone to fill the gaps.

Principles of education at school

Principles. Each school has its own code of conduct, more or less strict. Usually it is strictly forbidden to disrupt the daily routine, smoke, drink alcohol or drugs, show aggression towards other students, or cheat on exams. Violation of these requirements first results in a warning, then expulsion.

As a rule, studying at a boarding school involves wearing a school uniform, which is purchased in a special store.

Absences from school grounds are strictly regulated. In order for a child to be released for the weekend, a written application from the parents or guardian is required.

For communication between parents and teachers children wear to school every day special folders. Various notes, brochures and school assignments completed by children are included there. If necessary, the parent can put his own note. The folders are checked every day by the teacher. And on Fridays she sends home a special folder with “news” for the weekend.

Doesn't happen here at school parent meetings- and are carried out interviews (interviews) 4 times a year - the teacher meets with parents, possibly in the presence of the student himself - and they have a friendly conversation, and shortcomings are spoken about quite gently, but if the parent himself wants to deepen the conversation and focus on some problems - then the teacher can keep the conversation going in the same direction.

Practice of annual shuffling. Teachers change every year (although for younger students there is still one teacher who teaches most lessons), and the composition of the classes changes too. And inside the class, children are periodically moved to different tables.

Discipline

In general, despite the external severity, discipline in Canadian schools limps badly. Teachers do not have the right not only to shout at children or discipline them in front of the whole class, but even to somehow infringe on their rights.

If disobedience begins, the child is placed on a chair, which is either in the locker room or in the “waiting room.” If this does not help, then he is taken to the school principal, and he sits in his office until his mother arrives.

Culture, holidays and ceremonies

The holidays are the same as in America + a few unique ones.

March 17 - St. Patrick's Day - St. Patrick's Day. This holiday is dedicated to travelers, wayfarers and wanderers. They sing special songs and dance Irish dances - for example, an Irish jig to the sounds of a village fiddle or bagpipes. They dress in all green.

September - Labor Day - Labor Day. In fact, it is a day of rest. This is a holiday in honor of all workers who have earned the right to rest - it happens on the 1st Monday of September,

November 11 - Remembrance Day - Memorial Day. At 11:00 on November 11, a Minute of Silence is held across Canada - this is a time to remember all the people who died during wars.

Other

Most teenagers start having sex quite early.

There are quite a few very fat people in Canada, mostly women.

The Canadian education system is similar to the American one.

According to some reports, the pedagogy of Canada (as well as America) is mainly concerned with the issues of teaching representatives of different nationalities on the same territory.

Today's Canada is one of the most developed countries with high level life and extremely low crime rates. Every year, hundreds of thousands of applicants seek to move to study in this country, and their number is constantly growing, including due to immigrants from Russia and the CIS.

Obtaining a Canadian education not only provides great prospects for the future, but is distinguished by loyal conditions for admission and the learning process itself. Educational institutions provide a high level of knowledge, an international diploma, and the opportunity for further employment both in Canada itself and in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain and other developed countries of the world. In addition, education can be obtained relatively inexpensively.

Canada has two official languages: English and French. Since the country is a federal state, each administrative unit has a high level of autonomy. Therefore, despite general principles preschool education of children, each province has its own characteristics.

Types of preschool institutions

  • The first option is called Junior Kindergarten(Some, such as Ontario and New Brunswick, start kindergarten at age 3 and end at age 5.)
  • Second - Primary Kindergarten(In other regions, education in preschool institutions lasts only a year - from 5 to 6 years.)

Kindergarten opening hours vary. This can be either full or part-time. In Ontario and British Columbia, as a rule, all kindergartens operate full-time. In other provinces of the country, not all preschool institutions work according to this schedule, but parents always have the opportunity to choose the most comfortable mode for visiting a nursery or kindergarten.

Kindergarten operating hours

  • At incomplete during the working day the children are in kindergarten from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., maximum until 2 p.m..
  • In kindergartens with full during the day the stay time is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In state kindergartens there is no fee for visiting. This rule applies to both children of Canadian citizens and children of foreigners living in the country legally. In addition to state kindergartens, there are also private ones. Their services will cost from 300 to 700 US dollars per month. Parents will also need to pay a one-time fee of $200 and an annual fee of $300. The advantage of private institutions is the variety of programs, an individual approach to each child and the highest level of training of teachers.

Admission to school

Secondary education in Canada includes three stages and lasts for 11-12 years (grades). Of course, each Canadian province may have its own structure for secondary education, and therefore the length of secondary school may vary.

For Canadians, all public schools are completely free. Children enter them at the age of 5-6, and continue their education until they are 15-16 years old. If you wish, you can study there longer.

Feature schooling in Canada is the division of subjects into compulsory ones (mathematics, history, geography, English and French and, physical education and career guidance) and desirable (at the choice of the student and his parents). By the way, since there are quite a lot of Ukrainians in Canada, there are many Ukrainian and bilingual English-Ukrainian schools.

In a Canadian school, training lasts for 12 years.

And everything that is olderSecondary . And in Alberta, the same period of study is divided into three components:

  • Elementary(from Kindergarten to 6th grade inclusive)
  • Junior High(from 7th to 9th grade)
  • Senior High(10-12 grade)

Other provinces have their own characteristics. Quebec is especially different in this regard.

Mid-level educational institutions in Canada are called "high schools", but a logical name for a high school "middle schools" In Canada, classes of the second stage of the elementary level are worn.

Beginning of the school year

The academic year, as a rule, begins in Canada in September and ends in May-June. Instead of the usual quarters for Russian schoolchildren in Canadian schools, as in most Western educational institutions, academic year is divided into two semesters of six months.

Extending training time

In the province of Ontario the secondary school period also covers 5 grades, and education can continue up to the age of 21–22 years. This is due to the fact that at the last stage secondary education will be supplemented by vocational education (as in Quebec). Therefore, the training period is extended by 2–3 years.

Some graduates take additional classes to prepare for entrance exams to university.Canada has opportunities in-depth study some specialized disciplines, which are combined into a program called "Advanced Placement program".

If they complete this advanced educational program, students will be able to gain a certain advantage in the future when entering most higher education institutions in Canada, the UK, the USA and other countries. This program includes development of chapters best schools USA and Canada since the middle of the last century in more than thirty disciplines that are taught in depth - as happens in the first year of universities.

If a foreigner’s child is studying in a Canadian school, then parents will have to pay for his education from 30 to 60 thousand dollars. This amount is relevant for government institutions; in private schools, tuition will cost much more.

Private schools in Canada

In addition to public schools, there are alsoprivate schools ) . These schools are equipped with first-class technical facilities. Highly paid teachers work here. In general, such schools provide a higher level of knowledge compared to public schools. However, private school education is quite expensive. Approximately 60 thousand C $ per year.

Private boarding schools regularly implement a program for their residents International Baccalaureate, which helps them enter the best institutions in the state.

Most Popular Private Schools

  • Appleby College. Located in the province of Ontario, you can study there for 60 thousand Canadian dollars per year;
  • Bodwell High School. Located in Vancouver, tuition at this boarding school during the day is 18 thousand dollars, full board will cost 35 thousand dollars.

To enroll in a public or private school, you must submit your transcripts from previous years of study, as well as successfully pass your choice of SSAT, CAT, TOEFL or IELTS tests. A certain package of documents in English is also required for admission to school; in some private schools, children undergo an oral interview.

It should be noted that there are actually two types of school education in the country: in English and in French.

The fact is that the official (state) languages of Canada are these two languages, and the country itself is divided into two parts - English-speaking and Francophone. The vast majority of primary and secondary educational institutions offer a choice of instruction in one language or another, but this must be further clarified for each specific school in Canada, because there are also purely French or English educational institutions.

Advantages of school education for Russian schoolchildren

  • Firstly, a certificate of complete secondary education from any school in Canada is highly rated among leading and ranking universities in the USA, Great Britain and many other countries.
  • Secondly, an important aspect of studying in Canada is that the cost of school education in boarding private educational institutions, with a comparable level of quality of education and the offered living and studying conditions, is somewhat lower than in the UK or the USA, as well as in some other countries.
  • Thirdly, Canada has a relatively loyal policy towards immigrants from other countries of the world, including Russia. This policy provides the opportunity for foreign students obtain citizenship, work and move to Canada for permanent residence, and strong rates of economic growth will allow you to find a job and achieve success.
  • Fourthly, Canada’s education sector receives huge subsidies and investments from the state, so there is every opportunity to use the latest achievements of human thought, modern computers, infrastructure elements, teaching methods and educational programs. The vast majority of educational institutions in Canada have modern computer labs equipped with the latest technology, which has an extremely positive impact on the quality of school education in Canada.
  • Fifthly, Canada has both a pleasant and comfortable climate and a friendly atmosphere towards foreign citizens.
  • Sixthly, school education in Canada is not only and not so much an academic education, but rather the development of the skills and talents of each student, the search for the area that is interesting to each student.
