2. Taking into account the difficult situation in the North Caucasus, the Maikop brigade, which suffered the greatest losses, should be withdrawn from the active troops and categorically prohibited from further participation in operations.

3. By the end of January 1995, return units and subunits of the Maikop garrison to their places of permanent deployment and provide rest (leaves) in accordance with the established procedure.

Streams of letters and telegrams went to Mozdok with the only question: whether their son, brother or relative is still alive. But, unfortunately, the command of the group in those early days of the January tragedy also could not name the real number of dead and wounded soldiers out of more than a thousand who went into battle. Even months later, no one could say anything about the fate of almost two hundred officers and soldiers of the brigade.

Only in early February was it finally possible to complete the operation to liberate the city from militants. But the black mark of that cruel and ruthless war will forever remain an unhealed wound on the hearts of those who fought and who lost relatives and friends there.

Six months later, in June 1995, while preparing an interview with the commander of the North Caucasian Military District, Colonel-General Anatoly Vasilievich Kvashnin, I asked him the following question: “Why at the initial stage Chechen campaign troops turned out to be unprepared for combat operations?

Yes, if we had more experienced commanders then, - he answered sadly, - there would be much less losses. But where to get them, experienced ones, if at best it was possible to conduct only command and staff exercises. The troops practically did not engage in real combat training, and the command and staff exercises, you yourself understand, everything is fine on paper ... Right there - a real battle that does not tolerate a template. The initial period of hostilities in Chechnya was a bitter lesson for all of us...

OPERATIVE INFORMATION

CIPPHROTELEGRAM

"To the Commander of the United Forces in the Chechen Republic

I report:

On January 26, 1995, the 166th separate motorized rifle brigade concentrated in the area 14 km southeast of the city of Mozdok in in full force. The shortage of soldiers, sergeants is 240 people. The personnel will be delivered to the brigade by aircraft of the Military Transport Aviation on January 27-28, 1995.

The brigade is engaged in maintenance, preparation of weapons and military equipment for combat use.

Commander of the 166th Separate motorized rifle brigade

Major General V. Bulgakov.

Trap for Basayev

The 166th separate motorized rifle brigade, commanded by Major General Vladimir Vasilyevich Bulgakov, took Minutka in early February 1995. When it entrenched itself on its lines near the square, General Bulgakov received a new order: to advance towards Novye Promyslov, where the “Abkhazian” battalion of Shamil Basayev was entrenched on one of the mountain ranges.

The operation to destroy the militants in the mountains was unique in itself. The brigade was divided into four assault detachments, and each of them was equipped specifically for the task. In the first detachment - 18 people, light small arms. The task is to capture the path to the mountain range, ensuring the exit of the remaining three assault groups. In the second - 32 people, his task is to occupy the southeastern slope of the ridge. The third assault detachment, consisting of 42 people, and the fourth, of 96 people, took the dominant heights on this ridge. On the night of February 22, 1995, the 166th brigade, together with the 506th motorized rifle regiment, completed the task, surrounding the Basayevites near Novye Promysly.

We squeezed them in the mountains, - Vladimir Vasilyevich recalls, - and crushed them with our artillery. In fact, there, under Novye Promysly, the so-called "Abkhazian" battalion ceased to exist. And yet, at night, Basayev somehow managed to slip out of our trap.

Military builders followed the troops

In January 1995, when federal troops were besieging Grozny, clearing it of militants who had settled on the floors and basements of buildings, Major Mikhail Tashlyk, who headed the newly formed Directorate of the Head of Works (UNR), was instructed to restore the destroyed military camps, and in the district airport "Severny" to rebuild the barracks for the 205th separate motorized rifle brigade.

Military builders in Chechnya were very respected. And quite deservedly - they not only equipped the troops, but also gave people water. Before their arrival, the fighters who stormed the buildings swallowed melted snow directly from the puddles in short moments of calm, and military builders came, drilled wells under fire and provided the military, and the civilian population, with artesian water. It was then that Major Tashlyk realized for the first time how important his profession is for those around him, how necessary the help that they bring to people ...

7 THE STORY OF NICHOLAS "COMMUNICATION". "NEGOTIATION". BEGINNING PART 1.

166th brigade, reconnaissance company, 166th brigade, mad company, purgatory
The seventh article of Nicholas "Communication" All events are real, characters too, except for the protagonist of "Saint". 166 OMSB Mad company.

From myself: this story describes how Nevzorov's journalists came and interviewed the members of the "Mad Company", whose names later served as prototypes of the main characters in the film "Purgatory".

Denis knelt down on the bank of a small stream, took off his shoes and blissfully lowered his feet into the icy, clear water. I thought that five days without taking off your shoes is, of course, a bit too much, you can forget how your own legs look. With his fingers he lifted two shapeless sticky lumps, which were actually called socks, and began to violently erase them.

Well, he poisoned the water, - Seryoga Kuchin and Lech Shvets came up, settled down nearby.

Do not be afraid. It does not fall into our Don.

The scouts indulged in relaxation on the outskirts of Bamut. Yesterday they entered it calmly, one might say without a single shot, except, of course, for a whole day, massive artillery preparation. We caught the usual sight - dilapidated houses and not a soul around.

Now the whole village and the area around is filled with troops, and you can indulge in idleness. Moreover, the scouts deserve it. If you believe the official reports, which none of them believed anymore, but listened to today on the radio, then two servicemen died during the capture of Bamut. One of them Pashka comes out.

Denis, look what the infantry found, - Sniper held out some piece of paper.

The saint unfolded it and began to read with interest. This creation was called "Memo to the fighter of the liberation army of Chechnya" and was printed in a typographical way. It listed punishments for various offenses. The magnitude of the punishment was measured in blows with sticks. For the simplest infractions, like an untidy appearance or being late for the formation, five blows with a stick were supposed. For more serious offenses, ten, fifteen, and so on.

What struck Denis the most was the originality of the scale of values. For sleeping on duty, the most terrible crime from Nikolaev's point of view, fifty sticks were supposed, and for arguing with the commander - eighty. While drug use is only twenty.

Nice piece of paper, where did you find it?

Picked up somewhere in the ruins, so he begged to show his own.

It turns out interesting: if they are patriots, fighting for an idea, then there should be no violations, there is nothing to punish. So?

So! Sniper agreed.

And if they printed such a memo, then it is intended for mercenaries. So?

What did you fix? Well, yes, yes!

I'm saying that I saw a fair-haired head, just like yours, even lighter, there on the hill. In addition, it was printed not in Arabic, but in Russian.

What the hell! The saint in his hearts kicked the water with his bare foot so that the spray sparkled in the sun like a fan. - Communications says that when they approached Bamut, someone got on the air on our frequency, and the call signs were in pure Ukrainian language.

The sniper scratched the back of his head.

It turns out that we are fighting with mercenaries, or with whom?

Do I know? Yes, and whether we are at war at all, we only bury the boys.

They were silent. Lech recalled:

It would be necessary to talk to the company commander, but the Saint. Go to that “hill” to put a cross on Pashka.

I'll talk.

The next day, a company commander came to the "Kobrovites" and brought with him two staff members. One is a short blonde with a video camera, the other is a tall brunette with a professional camera around his neck.

Smaglenko, gather your people, - the company commander ordered, somehow cunningly looking around.

When everyone was lazily seated in a small yard on pebbles and logs, squinting in the bright sun, the company commander introduced:

Attention! These are correspondents. The commander asked for assistance. And this, comrade correspondents, is our best platoon - the first. In full, - the company commander stumbled slightly, - almost at full strength.

The one who was taller got up and for some reason took out and showed everyone his certificate, then introduced himself, gave his last name, first name and his colleague. He said that they were from the team of the well-known journalist Nevzorov and had come to shoot stories about fighters and various military operations. The guys sat and looked at these people with a bored look. They were no longer afraid of God or the devil, and everyone did not care deeply about these correspondents and their stories. But this guy spoke with such sincerity that it began to bribe. He did not fawn, did not persuade, he simply and sincerely explained what he wanted, and asked him to help him with this.

We want to shoot a fight scene. For example, taking this house, or not, is better than that. Help us. Several people depict an attack - they run, they shoot. We'll film it all and show it on TV. They wanted to sleep at the special forces, but they have an award there today. They removed only the formation and the awarded, - he hesitated a little and added, - they award those who distinguished themselves, so to speak, right on the battlefield.

Cool, - sarcastically inserted Max.

There were no people who wanted to shoot “for TV”. From all this, Denis became even more bored, he thought at least these people would tell the truth about them, but they were a “staging” there. He could not stand it and asked as caustically as possible:

Listen, my dear, why don't you show up a couple of days ago - then they would have filmed a scene of a real battle. Or vice versa, wait a couple of days - maybe something will turn up.

The brunet was not at all embarrassed, he began to explain easily:

You see, a real, real fight is not as fleeting as it should be for the screen. We need dynamics. And you all know much better than me that a real, real battle is stretched out in time.

Light, graceful sycophancy had an effect - the first applicants appeared and the process, as they say, began. The chubby blond quickly distributed the roles. Who runs from where and shoots where. He was immediately corrected that if we shoot like that, then we will shoot ourselves. He easily agreed and immediately changed the script.

While preparations were underway, the brunette took a video camera and began to ask the fighters a variety of questions and record answers on tape.

Gradually, everyone stirred. This cheerful buffoonery even began to be liked, new proposals rained down on how to make the plot better.

Add blood...

I'll play the wounded...

I'm a prisoner!

Let's thrash from the beshka! ...

But all this was tactfully rejected.

The saint looked at the performance from the side and realized that these professionals were 100% right. It turned out quickly, loudly and brightly, like in a movie. But in a real battle, everything is really, stretched out in time. You do not notice this, because in combat you live for a thousand parallel seconds, noticing and fixing a thousand events taking place nearby at that moment. Your time, your feelings, your emotions, your thoughts are filled to the limit.

Every boy who fought at least once in his life knows this. Watching a fight from the side is not so exciting - clumsy movements, ridiculous blows. But when you fight yourself, when attention is focused on any movement of the arm or leg of the opponent, any prolongation in time disappears. Their own movements seem lightning fast and ultra-precise, like in the movies.

Having filmed, the correspondents put the equipment in cases. The scouts, of course, invited them to dinner.

No, guys, thank you, - the brunette politely refused, looked towards Sannikov and continued, - Now, if I could go on reconnaissance with you ...

Tash-ktan, it’s really (a word stuck) you need to go, - Communication perked up. - Yes, and Pasha's cross is ready.

The cross is a sacred thing, - Nikolaev supported.

Baikal once again smiled slyly during the day:

Yes, talkers! Cleaning weapons, eating and rest until the evening.

Until the evening?

Smaglenko, I'll be there in half an hour! - and waving the journalists with him, he left.

Well, everything is clear that nothing is clear, - the Saint muttered and went to clean "Natasha", pushing his way through the crowd of his own and others who had gathered to watch "how they make a movie."

They were cleaning their weapons and animatedly discussing who said what through the lens and how they drew themselves.

Guys! And I did not ask when they will show something?

They said the first Thursday in June.

Wow, that's almost three weeks. I will have time to write my own, let them admire me. What is the transmission?

Nesmotova transfer - "Wild Field".

Yes, lucky, - the guys from other platoons who came to the light envied.

Come on, what's wrong with that, - Denis was surprised, - I was shown on TV many times in civilian life.

Didn't you dream?

No. One day I came to Moscow to visit a friend. We walk around the city, stopped near the "Dynamo" at the stall, took a beer, steel, drink. I see some guy with a microphone coming right up to us. With him is another one with a TV camera, a third with some kind of box around his neck and wearing headphones, a sound engineer, probably. This guy comes up with a microphone and asks: “How do you look into the future?”. I'm confused. I don’t remember what I said, about the optimism of something. I asked a friend, then “thank you” and went to ask others. We called him, they say, when will they show it? He speaks then on the Good Evening, Moscow TV channel. In a couple of days we are waiting, we are sitting at my friend's house, he warned the whole family that they would show our interview with him, almost a press conference. Well, of course, everyone is interested, they also sat down and waited. In the channel begins and at the beginning of the caption they go - what will be in the program. I read carefully - it seems that at the beginning there is nothing on our topic. And I pressed myself, I want a point, it's scary. I say, in the beginning, it seems not about us, I’ll run and quickly sit down. Ran. Sat down. Only ... I hear the whole family in one voice: “Denis! Hurry! You are being shown!" Well, where soon? You can't interrupt the process. So I screwed up my interview.

The laughter was loud, and the comments shone with options. Dim Dimych was delighted to be able to return to his favorite topic.

How is it "the process can not be interrupted"? Whose process is very even interrupted. So he even pulled a hundred meters. From a low start! He patted Max on the shoulder.

Yep, very low! Gardin snapped.

Max, tell me, in the end, what happened to you there?

Okay, - he finished cleaning. He clicked the receiver cover on his RPK, lowered the spring, put it on the safety, inserted the magazine. He carefully placed his favorite weapon on his knees, ready to speak.

It was near Tsentoroy. After they took it, the position was determined for us immediately behind the outermost houses, on a hillock. The platoon commander ordered everyone to open a trench for shooting from the knee. Communication even then rushed into refusal. What - I do not know.

Yes, I don't like this. It's like digging your own grave.

But you must!

But he dug it out!

But what!

In general, I don’t know what there was. Communication with the platoon commander was arguing, I equipped my trench, as it should be, and then I was also crushed on the valve. And where to? Not in front of the position. I saw bushes a hundred meters away, near the yard, I thought of going there. He just sat down, just rolled his eyes, when suddenly a bullet whistled right next to his ear. I have my black bandage like this, it was tied with a knot to the side. So the bullet broke the end of the bandage, here it is. I just had time to figure out to fall on my side, and my knee sticks out like that. The next bullet - like this hebe under the knee flashed. Well, I think, kranty. Where they shoot from is not clear. There was nowhere to hide, then there were pants from the winter hebe, with straps, I only managed to put on one strap and go back. I run and hear the bullets smacking behind me.

Stop, stop! – cheerfully interrupted his Communication, - Let me tell you further. My trench was the most extreme. I dug it out just to my size, so that's just it. And at that time he was near the beshki. I hear shots, and Max runs, shouting: “They are shooting! Max! Anxiety!" Everyone jumps around, and I dive into the nearest trench. It turned out to be Max. I look, and he is so beautiful - classically rushes, with full swing, and behind him the fountains take off. And from where - do not understand. Our all froze, and Max runs. Runs to the last trench and fish there.

Yeah, kill you, Communication, not enough.

This turned out to be my trencher! Well, I made it according to my size, so as not to dig too much, and you can see for yourself the dimensions with him. In general, we are all in the trenches. Someone is shooting at us, but from where, it is not at all clear, only bullets whistle. I feel good, spacious and laughable. And Max dived like a fish, so he yells at me with cursing. To be honest, I haven't heard of them yet.

Hear more! I can’t turn around there, I can’t get out, and my pants are hanging out.

In general, the cartridges of the spirit, apparently, ran out. Everything calmed down. Then, with the whole platoon, Max was calmed down so that he would not dig me in my trench.

I send all those interested in the military operations of this military unit here http://aventure56.livejournal.com According to journalistic habit, the material is made in the style of "universal lamentation for those killed alive", but if you do not take into account the tone of the material, the article deserves attention as one of the first mentions in the press of the 166th Tver brigade. I added illustrations to the post from the blog of photojournalist Alexei Sazonov http://mnalex2002.livejournal.com/14595.html

Here I would like to give an excerpt from the correspondence with Valery Pavlovich Kislev, the author of the book "Reconnaissance Battalion" and the two-volume book about the 245th MRR "Confession of the Undefeated Regiment" and "Glory to the Undefeated Regiment". Here is what he wrote to me about the 166th Tver brigade: "We are not far away, in Ivanovo, at the beginning of the 1st campaign, the 166th motorized brigade was formed - three times just ran up, even before sending".

PAST HOME - TO WAR. Another batch of hastily trained soldiers is sent from Tver to Chechnya.//Newspaper " Soviet Russia"N2 (11132), 01/06/1995

Soldier Dima Sukharev traveled from Vladimir to Tver by train. He did not ride, as if flying on wings. Still would! The path lay not somewhere, but in the native side. To Kalashnikov from Tver, from where Dmitry was called, is a stone's throw away. The soldier dreamed that he would see his relatives. They will visit him in the unit or he will receive a leave of absence. Lucky, in a word: just six months after the call, I went home. Yes, and there will be something to talk about. Now he is not a green rookie, but a tank driver. I wonder how he, brave, in a fitted worn uniform, will be met by friends and girlfriends? ..

But the New Year's dreams of the soldier were not destined to come true. Upon arrival at the unit, Dmitry was announced that he was included in the list of those who, after a short preparation, would go to Chechnya. Here is such a "luck": he was in a hurry to go home to go to war. And not a tanker, but a motorized rifleman.

During these New Year's days, Tver has become a tragic city for dozens of mothers from all over Russia. By someone's order, a motorized rifle unit is being formed in an ancient Russian city to be sent to Chechnya. Soldiers and sergeants are sent here from wherever they still remain. And, apparently, there are now few of them in the army defeated by the "reformers". I judge this by a number of indirect, but weighty signs. The tanker Sukharev had to be urgently retrained as an infantryman, not because of an excess of ordinary motorized riflemen. Aleksey Pipkin was transferred to the Tver part from the Podolsk region. What position he was listed in, the soldier himself does not know. Fulfilled the duties ... of a stoker. For half a year I received information about the quality of coal and fuel oil, perfectly learned how to use a shovel, keep the pressure and temperature in the boiler. I didn't have to keep the gun in my hands. And in Tver he was told that in ten days (so much left before departure) he should become a mortar man.

While the soldier was telling me all this, my parents stood sullenly by my side. Although, as they consider, they were lucky: they found their son without much trouble. Others find it harder. O. Khaziakhmetova came to Tver from Magnitogorsk. For more than one night they have been huddled at the station. And in the morning he comes to the checkpoint, asks questions, demands to find his son Igor. In vain. Mothers respond differently every day. At first they said that he had already been sent to Chechnya. Then they said that he was apparently at the training ground, since he was not on the list of those sent. Now they say they don't know where they've gone...

How can one understand such absurdity! - the unfortunate woman does not hold back her tears.

Lyudmila Vasilyeva from Moscow never sees her son Vitaly. IN last days December he was transferred from Smolensk to Tver. They say that at the training ground he is mastering a new specialty for him. There are only two weeks to study.

You must understand, - Lyudmila Ivanovna convinces me, - that it takes at least six months to acquire military skills. What kind of wise guy commanded: untrained children in hell? Let Yeltsin, Grachev and other Kremlin wise men first send their children, sons-in-law and other relatives to Chechnya. And after these commanders, ours will move ...

Various rumors are circulating in the regional center. Including about conscripts, who, without education, training, almost from the military commissariats intend to throw into battle. Whether this is actually so, it was not possible to find out. They were not allowed into the unit or to the training ground with a TASS correspondent. The commanders and their assistants for educational work with personnel flatly refused to talk. It is not difficult to understand them: they follow orders. But the silence of the commanders is more expressive these days than any words. Many officers in the unit went to Afghanistan and are well aware of the senselessness and insidiousness of the next massacre.

The other day there was a militia near the military town. The operational group of the ROVD of the Proletarsky district went there on a call from the duty officer: the parents, they say, are violating public order. The policemen came and saw such a picture. Truck after truck leaves the gate of the unit. In the trunks, like cartridges in a clip, soldiers in full gear in dull gleaming helmets. The mothers who had arrived the day before to see their sons were ready to throw themselves under the wheels. They demanded to stop sending until they see their children. The commander of the unit, however, immediately ordered that the lists of those sent (more than 400 people) be read out. There was not one in them whose mothers had gathered at the gate. It turned out that this group was also transferred to Tver from another Russian city. And on the same day, they were sent to Mozdok by military transport aircraft. One of the aviation chiefs who supervised the loading into aircraft shared their impressions.

The guys are well equipped. Warmly dressed, everyone has a bulletproof vest, a chemical kit, a dry ration, a sleeping bag. But... the mound is green.
