BMW extreme driving. BMW driving school. BMW in Russia

On a flat, cone-marked asphalt area with puddles of ice, there is a line of brand new BMW X1s, on which we will soon have to take a driving lesson. But first, to the class - to the desk. Theory first. First, the instructors of the BMW Driving Experience school told us what was new in the smallest crossover of the brand after restyling, and then they already instructed us on the correct fit, steering and other “driving” tricks.

The material is assimilated surprisingly easily thanks to a special teaching methodology - the teacher does not just tell, but constantly asks questions, forcing the listener to “turn on the brains”, as a result of which what has been said is deposited in the head for a long time.

However, the fact that after restyling the BMW X1 acquired a more interesting appearance can be seen without the instructor's explanations. But the fact that the new bumper has a special protrusion that, when hitting a pedestrian, will allow you not to touch his knee joint, it would hardly be possible to find out without a teacher, since there is no such information in the press release. In addition to the new bumpers, the crossover received a new headlight filling with LED “rings” and illuminated “eyebrows”. The edging of the “foglights” has also changed. And the turn signal repeaters moved from the front fenders to the mirrors.

In addition, the crossover has received enhanced customization options with new body colors and various wheel design options. Also, the novelty received several design packages - xLine, Sport Line and M Sport, which differ in external body elements. The cabin has more chrome trim, and the ventilation system vents are edged with shiny plastic, reminiscent of Apple products. The motors remained the same, with the exception of the xDrive25d modification, which replaced the xDrive23d. Actually, this 2-liter turbodiesel with two turbines is the same as before, but after modernization, its power increased from 204 to 218 hp. It was this car that was waiting for me on the site.

Controlled sliding

Getting behind the wheel, I remember the lesson on the correct landing. You need to sit as low as possible so that when driving at high speed, your eyes are focused not in front of the hood of the car, but farther away: the farther you look, the better you choose the trajectory. With the brake pedal depressed, the leg should remain bent, and the “fifth point” should not crawl around the seat, for which the coccyx should be firmly pressed against the back. At the same time, it is desirable to put the latter closer to the vertical in order to better feel the forces acting on the car, and the blades should not come off this very back when the steering wheel is rotated.

The first two laps are introductory, behind the instructor's car. I'm driving alone, studying the track, on which now and then come across slightly melted ice patches. The instructor communicates with the student on the radio. When asked why not make the ice cover artificially, for a uniform coefficient of adhesion, representatives of the BMW Driving School replied that their lessons are designed to teach you how to drive a car in real life, where grip is constantly changing, and not in the greenhouse conditions of a landfill. And they are right.

The first laps without a “guide” I drive carefully, gradually increasing speed. The stabilization system cannot be disabled. The crossover responds to any provocations with the chirping of brakes and arbitrarily interrupts the fuel supply, keeping on the trajectory. Safe, but not fun. After a few laps, the instructor gives the command to switch the stabilization system to sport mode. In this case, it does not turn off completely, but already allows small sliding angles.

It turns out that the track is very slippery! Slightly overdo it with the speed of entering the turn - and the front end rushes out of the turn, overdo it with the "gas" - and there is an unexpected skid. If you slide lightly, the stabilization system is silent, but as soon as you want to misbehave, it is right there.

And here is the denouement - at the command of the teacher, I hold the key to turn off the stabilization system for several seconds. Now I'm one on one with the car. True, the system is on the alert here too - it will connect if there is a threat of capsizing.

For example, if you go sideways on ice and fly out onto asphalt with a high grip coefficient. The crossover in sliding demonstrates such rear-wheel drive habits that, out of habit, I reduce the “gas” supply when a skid occurs and turn the wheels - the car stabilizes as a rear-wheel drive, and the speed drops. The demolition phase is practically absent. But in order to drive in a controlled slip, the fuel supply cannot be reduced - it must be increased. The instructor shouts on the radio: “Gas, gas, gas!” I have to overcome instinct, and now my car, like a real dancer, begins to write out pirouettes on ice. The main thing is to watch where the ice is replaced by asphalt, and do not get into these areas sideways. Adrenaline attack!

Geometry lessons

Now my path lies on an off-road training ground - in a quarry. On off-road, the instructor advises to raise the seat higher - here you need to see the road as close as possible. The main thing is to observe the “rule of the fist”: at least a fist must pass between the head and the ceiling - in case of a coup. The rest of the landing parameters are the same as for light driving.

Rule number 2: if in doubt whether you will pass through an obstacle, send a partner to look - you know better from the outside. It's amazing what gullies the X1 can go through, which has a ground clearance of 185 mm, which is small by the standards of the crossover segment! In front of me is an obstacle under 40 cm high, but with the help of my partner's commands, I cross it obliquely without problems.

And now into the forest - along a muddy-snow track blurred by the thaw. True, X1 was not allowed to torture there. Here our column consists of older models - X3, X5 and X6. I'm driving an X5. On the wide highway low-profile “rubber”, the car drives slightly in the mud from side to side, but the xDrive all-wheel drive, which can transfer up to 100% of traction to any of the axles, continues to pull forward in such wilds, where I would not voluntarily stick my head and on a specially prepared SUV.

And, for example, a 60 percent (30 °) side slope, which any of the BMW crossovers can overcome, is simply contraindicated for the vast majority of other SUVs due to a too high center of gravity.

Ahead is a huge puddle covered with ice. Here you can't do without rubber boots, kindly provided by BMW representatives. You have to go out and use improvised means to break the ice, and then measure the depth. You can drive, but be careful not to scratch the body-colored bumpers on the pieces of ice.

And then there was a steep and very long climb along a blurry track, where it seemed that in the event of a stop, the car would simply slide back, sweeping away everything in its path. But the fears turned out to be in vain - xDrive did not allow anyone to stop! In a word, I now know that any BMW crossover is not only a crossover, but also an SUV. You just need to have your head on your shoulders, and preferably two!

Where in Moscow you can learn how to drive a car on slippery surfaces. -DRIVE2

Schools are divided into two types - tied to a particular automaker and independent. The advantage of the former is that the student is provided with a car, so he does not need to use a personal one. In addition, for ice activities it is better when she is shod with studded tires, but not everyone uses such tires. However, it happens that the driver wants to engage in his own car in order to get used to his behavior. In this case, it is better to contact independent schools, where individual lessons are also available.

Vasin Driving SchoolWebsite: www.v-ds.ru/Location: Moscow region, Yakhroma

This season, the official Audi school, formerly called quattro camp, has undergone a reorganization - now Audi is collaborating with the Vasin Driving School project led by the charismatic Evgeny Vasin, master of sports and winner of the European Rally Cup. However, this was the case before, so this is more likely a change of signage. Classes are held at the site in Yakhroma near Moscow and are divided into two courses. “Technique Setting” is a basic program that lasts 5 hours (1 hour theory, 4 hours practice) and gives students the necessary basics and basics for driving an Audi all-wheel drive car (models S5 Sportback, A7 Sportback and Q7 are used). It costs "Setting up equipment" 17,500 rubles. A little more expensive - 21,900 rubles - will cost the next step called "Counter-emergency preparation". It is already designed for 6 hours, and the exercises themselves take place at a higher speed and include the development of gliding movement skills. That's all. Luxurious four-day courses in Karelia and Ugra are not offered this year. It's a pity.

BMW Driving ExperienceWebsite: www.bmw.ru/ru/ru/insights…ainings/introduction.html Location: Moscow region, Kurovo (territory of the Sorochany ski complex)

The BMW Driving Experience boasts a wide range of winter courses. The first step is the "Basic" course. It includes a theoretical part, and on the site the main attention is paid to the peculiarities of the car's behavior on snow and ice. Next - the "Speed" course, where the exercises become more difficult and are performed at higher speeds, including in controlled gliding. Moreover, in these programs, both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive BMWs are used. Each of them costs 25 thousand rubles, but you can save money by enrolling in the Intensive course - it combines the Basic and High-Speed courses, and you will have to pay 45 thousand rubles for a two-day training. The Drift program stands apart. As it is easy to understand from the name, all attention will be paid to the controlled drift of the car. It is designed for 4 hours (of which an hour will be spent on theory) and will lighten the wallet by 20 thousand rubles. By the way, all of the above courses can be taken while driving "charged" BMW M-series cars, but the cost of training will increase: "Basic" and "High-speed" will cost 32 thousand rubles, "Intensive" - 57,500 rubles, and for "Drift" 29 thousand will have to be paid.

Mini Driving Experience Website: www.mini.ru/driving_experience/index.html Location: Moscow region, Kurovo (territory of the Sorochany ski complex)

Exactly in the same place and according to the same principles, the work of the Mini Driving Experience Center for Driving Excellence is organized. Five-hour (two hours devoted to theory) course "Basic" for 12 thousand rubles - the first step. This is followed by a one-day "Basic" course for 23 thousand rubles, which is similar in structure to the BMW Driving Experience training of the same name - drivers are taught to calculate the braking distance and drive a car on slippery surfaces.

Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy Website: da.mercedes-benz.ru/ Location: Moscow region, Staraya Kupavna, FSO training ground

Courses are held at the FSO training ground, and the program includes several one-day trainings. The cars are the same for any of them - these are rear- and all-wheel drive Mercedes C, E, CLS, S, SL, SLK, GLE, GLC and GLS crossovers and even a G-class SUV! Of course, there is a clear hierarchy: the "Basic" course gives understanding of the physics of the movement of the car on a slippery surface and is the basis for further programs. In "Advanced" training, the speed increases, and the exercises themselves become more difficult. And in "Profi" and "Expert" special attention is paid to driving in slips, many elements are performed with the ESP system turned off. Any of the programs will cost 25 thousand rubles.

Porsche Driving Center RussiaWebsite: porsche-russland.ru/pdc/Location: Moscow Region, Moscow Raceway

The Porsche Driving Center Russia, which opened last year, did not forget about winter courses either - a site has been prepared in the spacious paddock of the Moscow Raceway circuit, where 2 programs take place. Certificates for the first, Introduction, are given to Porsche buyers by dealerships - it includes a theoretical part and the development of basic exercises that should reveal the features of controlling Porsche Macan and Cayenne all-wheel drive crossovers. The next course is called Precision, it costs 65 thousand rubles, and classes are held exclusively on sports Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and Carrera 4 GTS. The basis of the one-day program is similar to the Finnish Camp 4S course and includes not only exercises like slalom, but also driving rear-engined coupes in a glide.

Jaguar Land Rover ExperienceWebsite: www.jaguarex.ru/Site location: Moscow region, Novorizhskoye highway

Not so long ago, Jaguar Land Rover opened its own Jaguar Land Rover Experience, so the team, led by chief instructor Yegor Vasiliev, had to change the training program. So far, customers are offered three courses. The first of these is a three-hour lesson designed to immerse you in driving technology: emergency braking, hands on the steering wheel, and simple cornering. Next - a six-hour program, designed for 2 days. The tasks become more difficult: on some exercises the stabilization system is turned off, various trajectories are worked out, power slides appear. At the top there is a three-day course (3 lessons of 3 hours each), in which they learn to use a rhythmic skid, combine emergency braking with a maneuver and work with bundles of turns. Classes are held on Jaguar cars, and the entire line is available - from the compact XE to the powerful F-Type. One problem - the program has just been approved, so the Jaguars have not yet decided on the price.

IN INDEPENDENT DRIVING SCHOOLS, classes are generally held in students' cars. This has its advantages - you get used to the behavior of the car that you drive every day.

Center for Higher Driving Excellence by Professor E. S. Tsygankov Website: www.cvvm.ru/ Site location: Moscow, Mnevniki

The Center for Higher Driving Excellence (TSVVM), founded by Professor and Honored Coach Ernest Sergeevich Tsygankov, is perhaps one of the most famous places for driver training not only in Moscow, but also in Russia (it has branches in 19 cities). The winter course is offered alone (driving a car in critical situations), but it is quite capacious - 15 hours are allotted for classes, divided into 5 weekdays. during which they will learn emergency braking, handling on slippery roads and car stabilization. The cost of such a course is 15,600 rubles, but TsVVM does not provide a car. In addition, you first need to go through a five-day microcycle "Initial counter-emergency training" for 7,200 rubles - this includes the theoretical part and work on simulators.

MasterClassWebsite: www.m-class.ru/Site location: Moscow, Mnevniki

After a shopping center was built on Khodynskoye Pole, and another stadium appeared instead of an interesting complex in Tushino, only one decent-sized site remained in Moscow, suitable for training schools of counter-emergency driving. The MasterClass center also conducts its courses there, which offers three winter programs. However, it all starts with practicing high-speed taxiing techniques for 1900 rubles (as part of a group) or 5900 rubles individually. Then there are three blocks already on the site: “Basic stabilization skills in winter”, “Studying unstable driving modes” and “Sliding and rotating a car ". The first one teaches how to prevent the car from drifting or skidding, then the instructors move on to learning how to move in these modes, and the final part is completely devoted to sliding. Each block is designed for 2.5-3 hours and costs 6,900 rubles (as part of a group) or 11,900 rubles (individually). It is possible to save 15% by ordering and paying for all courses at once. There is also a special Drift program - on your own car it will cost 14,900 rubles, and when using a school Lexus IS 300, the amount will increase to 29,900 rubles. Its two-day intensive version costs 24,900 and 49,900 rubles, respectively.

ASportWebsite: www.safetydriving.ru Site location: Moscow, Mnevniki

Automotive Academy "ASport" offers only capacious long courses. Initial training is designed for a minimum of 10 hours (5 lessons of 2 hours) and mainly includes the basics of safe traffic in the city and parking training. And only in the final the student will get acquainted with slips and ways of stabilizing the car. This express program costs 30,000 rubles (40,000 if using a school Ford Focus), and an extended 20-hour version will cost exactly twice as much. A similar dependence remains when ordering a program for experienced drivers - it already includes only exercises at the training ground. Braking on an arc, emergency maneuvers, car slips - all this can be studied in 6 hours as part of the express option (18,000 rubles on your own car, 24,000 rubles on a school Ford Focus), or choose a full 10-hour course for 30,000 rubles (at Focus - 40,000 rubles). There is also sports training - each lesson (2 hours) will cost 8,500 rubles (or 10,500 rubles driving a Focus).

Anton Zakharov Racing AcademyWebsite: azdrive.ru/Court location: Moscow, Mnevniki

The Racing Academy of Russian rally champion and circuit race winner Anton Zakharov offers two driver training programs. The first one (for 27,990 rubles) is addressed to beginners and includes a repetition of traffic rules, a theoretical part and simulator training, 20 hours in a city stream, as well as 6 classes on a race track, during which students are smoothly brought to the next course. It is called "Extreme Driving" and, in addition to the mentioned theoretical and training parts, it includes 5 three-hour lessons on the track. You need to pay 22,990 rubles for it (or 16,990 rubles for those who have already passed the theory). It is not necessary to use a personal car - for an additional fee, you can rent a Renault Logan, Mitsubishi Lancer, Mini Cooper, Peugeot 407, Subaru Impreza WRX or even the Mercedes-Benz E-class. There is also the opportunity to study individually - a three-day program (2 hours a day) costs 19,990 rubles, and its six-day version costs 37,990 rubles. Finally, it is also proposed to rent a 420-horsepower BMW M3 coupe at a rate of 24,990 rubles per hour.

Driving Academy Sport & Safety Website: www.sport-safety.ru/ Site location: Moscow, Mnevniki

The Sport & Safety school, on the other hand, offers only individual lessons - no groups! A maximum of two people is allowed, but then the duration of the training also increases. And it's also a way to save money. For example, an 8-hour course "Contra-emergency driving" for one person costs 26,500 rubles (including simulator training), and for two people it will stretch up to 10 hours and will cost 44,500 rubles. The same applies to the faster and more difficult course "Extreme driving ”- a 10-hour program (2 hours on the simulator, 3 lessons of 2 hours on the site) costs 37,000 rubles, and for two it will cost 73,400 rubles for 12 hours. By the way, if you pass simulator training as part of one of the basic courses, then its cost (3,000 rubles for 2 hours) can be deducted.

If the customer has a rear- or all-wheel drive car, then you can take the Drift course for 43,700 rubles, which includes 4-hour training on the simulator (if you have already completed it, you can also deduct it) and 2 lessons of 2.5 hours. In addition, classes are offered on a prepared Mazda MX-5 roadster - 1 hour will cost 13,500 rubles, and, in addition to the site in Mnevniki, you can work out on the ice of the Pirogovsky reservoir.

Extreme DriveWebsite: www.extrimdrive.ru/Location of sites: Moscow: Mnevniki, Dzerzhinsky, Biryulevo, Basmanny district

The Extreme Drive Club offers drivers several winter programs that are held in different parts of the city of Moscow. The basic training is called “Small experience. Winter" and it is designed to adapt to slippery surfaces of drivers who have recently graduated from a driving school. The full course, which includes the theoretical part, classes in the city and emergency training, costs 35,000 rubles in your own car or 45 thousand in a club car. driving on snow and ice. It costs 23 thousand rubles or 39 thousand when using a school car. "Full emergency ice training" consists of a complex: theory, simulators and a platform. This program will cost 28 or 44 thousand rubles.

A comprehensive program for the fair sex is also offered. It's called "Woman at the wheel. Winter”, and includes parking exercises, traffic in the city and practice on the ice. The cost is 25 thousand rubles in your own car or 29 thousand in a school car. Finally, there is an interesting offer - 3 individual lessons for 2 hours on cars with front (Mitsubishi Lancer), rear (BMW 328i) and all-wheel drive (Subaru Impreza) for 19 thousand rubles.

AMK FSO RFWebsite: www.amk-fso.ru/Inc.files/training.html Site location: Moscow region, Staraya Kupavna, FSO training ground

A complex abbreviation means the Automobile and Motorcycle Club of the Federal Security Service. Classes are held at the FSO training ground in the Moscow region (the same site is used by the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy). The winter program includes the only course, the duration of which depends on the type of drive of the car - two days are allotted for front-wheel drive, and four will have to be spent on mastering rear-wheel drive. rear - 45 thousand, a prerequisite - non-studded tires), and on cars provided by the Safe Driving Training Center. Moreover, the second option will cost even ... cheaper! Two days behind the wheel of a Ford Focus will cost 22,000 rubles, a program similar in time for a Mercedes-Benz ML or S-class will ease the wallet by 24,000, and among the rear-wheel drive, you can choose between GAZ-3102 and Mercedes S-class. For the pleasure of "drifting" 4 days on a thoroughbred "German" you need to pay 43 thousand rubles.

Racing Academy by Anton NebylitskyWebsite: anacademy.ru/Court locations: Mnevniki

The Academy officially began classes in 2013, on the basis of the Silver Rain karting center. By 2014, the founder of the Academy, Anton Nebylitsky, decided to develop the history of rental schools and created a sports karting school, which to this day takes place in an open area in Nizhny Mnevniki. As the school developed, the direction of body driving was also opened, and also, in connection with the progress of individual students, the direction of preparing for performances on European racetracks and sports management in world championships. Over the two years of the Academy’s work, a team of professional coaches was recruited, who, under under the guidance of Anton, who went all the way from rental karting to prestigious European championships in formula and touring cars, they adopted teaching methods, knowledge and skills of working with racers according to modern world standards.

AN Racing Academy is a one-of-a-kind racing school project that has its own active team in the GT Open - a world-class touring car series, its own Formula cars, sports karts and touring sports cars.

Of course, in such a short time it will not be possible to learn how to drive a car in any conditions - driving school courses provide basic skills that need to be regularly maintained and developed. Some of the graduates continue to study individually or undergo training again every few years, some go into amateur motorsport or train on frozen lakes or on special tracks. The main thing is not to do it on public roads and not to provoke an accident, trying to surprise others with your skills. They are needed in order to avoid critical situations, not create them.

BMW Driving School. Basic course - logbook BMW 5 series Gran Turismo Board 747 2011 on DRIVE2

I’m sorry that I haven’t written anything for so long. In general, everything in the car pleases, ugh three times, nothing breaks. In mid-September, I finally got to the basic BMW driving experience course. theoretical course Aleksey Maslov - pilot of Nokia Rally Team. By the way, a very smart guy participates in the rally on the E36. Aleksey told a lot of interesting things about BMW. For example, did you know that almost all BMW models leave the assembly line with a weight distribution of 48-52? Or on all BMW models, the rear window opening has been patented since 19 some year, and on all models these features (except for the previous X3) are observed. Well, I won’t tell you about what technologies, how it works, because I’m not an expert. about how to sit correctly. I will tell everyone who is interested in this issue.

Right hand - the palm should hang down from the steering wheel, the body tightly fits the seat, the arms at an angle of 45 degrees. Hands must be kept on 3 and 9.

The theory course lasts about 2 hours. It starts with the fact that the instructor asks everyone to introduce themselves and talk about what the person wants to get from these courses.

In principle, the people were very different, both old and young, as they say.

Well, the sweetest thing is driving. I got a GT 535d with all-wheel drive. The equipment is close to mine. Honestly, I didn’t notice the difference in dynamics. The first exercise was a snake, then a snake at a higher speed. Then the instructor (unfortunately forgot his name) clearly showed what distance to keep and how quickly the car stops.

In general, we guessed the approximate distance from 60 to about 20 meters.

And for a sweet detour obstacles when braking.

The most interesting thing is that during emergency braking, we all intuitively extend our arms, and this cannot be done because of the danger of a fracture in a collision.

And finally, somewhere in the middle of practice, my car stupidly stalled and refused to start. Ride on a new three-ruble note, it seems 325. Hmm, the difference with my barge is huge - this is probably a real BMW. Rigid, rulitsya, does not heel. But after the Audi I was tired of all this and the city wants comfort.

We put likes) I am pleased and stimulates further writing of bortovik

On a flat, cone-marked asphalt area with puddles of ice, there is a line of brand new BMW X1s, on which we will soon have to take a driving lesson. But first, to the class - at the desk.

You overdo it a little with the speed of entering the turn - and the front end rushes out of the turn, you overdo it with the "gas" - and an unexpected skid occurs. If you slide lightly, the stabilization system is silent, but as soon as you want to misbehave, it is right there.

And here's the denouement - at the command of the teacher, I hold the key to turn off the stabilization system for several seconds.

Rule number 2: if in doubt whether you will pass through an obstacle, send a partner to see - you know better from the outside.

The "Sports" course at the BMW Driving School, and here I am again twisting the "steering wheel", trying not to fall out of the chair. And the reason was the decision of the Germans, who staged a "reset" of their training program. From now on, the Russian branch of BMW Driving Experience operates under the wing of the M GmbH division, and at the same time changed its location. Why were such changes necessary?

For an answer to this question, we went to Sorochany near Moscow, where the BMW Driving Excellence Center is now based. We are greeted by a nice pavilion with two classrooms, a cafe and a showroom for four cars, and BMW and ... Mini lines are parked along it. Yes, yes, now they teach driving front-wheel drive cars! In addition, there is a program for owners of BMW motorcycles. And the site itself is well known to visitors to this ski resort - in winter it is a parking lot.

The BMW Driving Experience offers programs for all tastes. The counter-emergency training includes the courses "Basic" (12,000 rubles), "Basic" (17,000 rubles), "High-speed" (23,000 rubles) and "Intensive" (these are the previous two in a row for 34,000 rubles). Next - "Sports" (34 thousand) and "Master" (2500 euros for 2 days at the Nurburgring driving a BMW M3). Drift stands apart for 16 thousand rubles. Also, those who wish can improve the skills of driving BMW X1, X3 and X6 off-road. In addition, there are courses for motorcyclists. And it is not at all necessary to be a BMW customer; anyone who has paid for it can take training here. Plus, winter training programs - then half of the parking lot remains at the disposal of the Center

The landfill occupies 80,000 square meters (400x200 m), which is noticeably smaller than at Khodynka. But the former airfield is about to be built up, so BMW took care of finding a new foothold in time. A good platform is flat, almost devoid of any waves of coverage. Yes, and it accommodates two groups of 12 people at the same time. But we came here not only to gawk at the results of the BMW Driving Experience move, we were invited to take an eight-hour "Basic" course, an hour and a half of which was devoted to theory.

Alexey Maslov is a very charismatic coach, so the lecture for an hour and a half flew by unnoticed. By the way, he is a master of sports and the owner of the Russian Rally Cup. However, all instructors at the BMW Driving Experience have a rank of at least

Isn't it too much? Not! Anyway, Aleksey Maslov, head instructor of the Russian branch of the BMW Driving Experience, made those 90 minutes fun enough that no one would nod off like the students in the morning lectures. And the theoretical part is not limited to the correct driving position, taxiing technique and description of the various trajectories and balance of the car. Special attention is paid to electronic systems that are equipped with BMW and Mini cars. For example, Alexey tells how the operation of the engine, transmission, DSC “stabilization” and steering changes when using the mode switch (from Eco Pro to Sport) on the central tunnel.

After the theory, we were divided into two subgroups. Maslov took one for himself, the second - Alexey Lukyanuk (pictured), who is now successfully racing in the Estonian Rally Championship and recently won the Tallinn Rally (in the Baltics, by the way, the competition is very serious)

We also heard an important caveat regarding the DSC system. To do this, Maslov drew us a couple of formulas from a school physics course. Very visual. If the centrifugal force (which depends on the mass, the square of the speed, and the turning radius) "defeats" the force of friction, then the car begins to slide. And no stabilization system can keep the car on the road if the speed is too high. Useful and sobering for those drivers who rely on the "omnipotence" of ESP / DSC and others like them.

We also talked about the tactics of the movement. In particular, about the correct distance. How many take into account the fact that the braking distance increases not just in proportion to speed, but in a quadratic relationship? Judging by how our drivers like to “hang” on the rear bumper on the Moscow Ring Road or on the highway, this information is superfluous for them. And how many of these "drivers" are lovers of powerful BMWs - you can't count them! Joking aside, but when we entered the site, the first thing we were asked to determine was where the car would stop from 40 km/h and from 80 km/h. Plus or minus guessed, but the difference, demonstrated in such a clear way, makes you wonder. And if we add here the reaction time and estimate the distance that the car will cover until the foot presses the brake?

It is a pity that after such a long and useful theoretical part, quite standard exercises followed. Acceleration-braking and slalom - the basics of the basics. First we go in single file behind the instructor in order to remember the location of the cones, then we take turns at our own pace. In case of mistakes or blots, the instructor immediately weighs a virtual “slap” on the radio. They say that if a student does not understand at all what is required of him, then one of the experienced mentors (and all of them have the ranks of masters of sports and certificates for working at the level of international BMW projects) will get into the car and explain everything popularly. There were no such people in our group.

But on the site there was an opportunity to test different "three-ruble notes" of BMW - we drove 320d, 328i and 335i. But the main thing is not even the engine. Cars with a red circle on the windshield were equipped with optional variable-pitch rack and pinion steering, while the rest of the BMWs had a "regular" steering wheel. Here we compare, because

I didn’t really like the new “three-ruble note” in December, the “non-linear” steering wheel, and there were no other options. But then on real roads, and on a tight "snake" such a mechanism facilitates maneuvers - you have to turn the "steering wheel" at much smaller angles.

Although it was not without a fly in the ointment here - even in sharp turns at low speeds, there is a lack of feedback. So you have to make a difficult choice - either put up with a longer, but "natural" steering wheel, or get used to the "non-linear" behavior. It's a matter of personal preference, so opinions are divided on this matter - half of the group voted for a BMW with optional steering. I preferred not to mess with cars anymore, where there was a circle on the glass.

There was one more exercise - rearrangement with simultaneous braking in the corridor of cones. In the photo, the driver did not cope with the task and in a fraction of a second he will demolish the inner cone. Next, we were waiting for a bonus - a "police turn" by 180 degrees. The instructors admit that it is useless, but spectacular. Customers like

For a similar picture was in the next exercise, which, by the way, caused problems for the vast majority of the group. Drift! There are no stationary watering installations at the site in Sorochany yet, so for some time we watched how ZiL with a tank generously poured water on the asphalt. Tasks, at first glance, seemed simple. First, it was necessary to cause the drift of the front axle, exceeding the speed on the arc. And then provoke a skid. After successfully mastering the typical mistakes, it was necessary to drive several laps in a continuous sliding of the rear wheels. And what's so difficult?

As in any slow and cramped "figure", it was necessary not to mow a single cone, but also to go fast enough. However, regardless of the results of the test exercise, each of us was blessed with an international level certificate, which makes it possible to continue participating in the global BMW Driving Experience programs. Of course, they give them to every graduate of the Center

And at the end of the day, a competition awaited us! The organizers built a very cunning track of cones - fast sections were suddenly replaced by slow and narrow ones. If you knock down a pole - catch 5 seconds, and there is only one valid attempt! For the purity of the experiment, everyone drove a BMW 328i, but you could choose a car with active steering. The timing is electronic, to avoid the human factor. It's good that we were told about the prizes after the races - they went smoothly, without incident. And we had something to fight for! For the victory, I received not only moral satisfaction and a couple of BMW accessories, but also a certificate for the next stage of the BMW Driving Experience - "High Speed". It is he who is the most difficult in the program of counter-emergency training and becomes the last step before the sports courses on the ring tracks. It sounds promising. But how is it in practice? We'll find out soon!
