The talented American neurosurgeon Glen Doman, together with his colleagues, was engaged in improving the methods of treatment and rehabilitation of children with brain disorders. After devoting 15 years of his activity to the study of the mental processes of healthy and sick children, Glenn Doman made several remarkable discoveries.

1. First of all, he noticed that healthy brain cells under the influence of exercise actively participated in the process of mental activity. This allowed the scientist to decide on the possibility of using the technique in the development of absolutely healthy children.
2. Secondly, Doman found that with visual, auditory and tactile stimulation, the affected brain cells are able to rehabilitate at a faster pace than in the absence of the necessary activities. Thanks to this, it was possible to justify the use of the methodology in working with sick children.

So the exercises developed have gained recognition among scientists. different countries and began to be used by educators, psychologists, pediatricians, neurosurgeons. For several decades now, they have been effectively used in various preschool and rehabilitation institutions, development centers. Focusing on the fact that babies, first of all, begin to perceive information with the help of visual and auditory analyzers, Doman put this principle as the basis of his development.

The neurosurgeon offers to show the children the words written on separate cards. Words should be specific and have a special meaning for a preschooler: MOTHER, DAD, PORRIDGE, CAT (these are the most simple words with which it is recommended to start training). How is the training going?

Classes should be carried out at a time when the child is in calm state. It is important that nothing disturbs or distracts him.

The baby must be put or planted in a comfortable position (if it is already). It is necessary to consistently demonstrate them, without being distracted by explanations. Classes should be carried out about 3 times a day for 5 days. After that, one card from the series must be removed by adding a new one.

1. The first session is the most important. It is at this stage that it is important to arouse the confidence of the child, to interest him. Therefore, choose the most suitable moment for the lesson and start! Cards of the first series must be shown, accompanied by comments. For example: “This is a train. 5. Starting to engage in this technique with children of the first year of life, do not overdo it. For classes with newborns, it is enough to demonstrate the picture and pronounce the word. The baby must learn to establish the relationship between the image and the word. In addition, the attention of babies is still unstable and scattered. Therefore, you do not need to overly strain the baby.
6. After the child is 9-12 months old, classes can be carried out as follows: the mother calls the word or shows a picture with the written word, and the baby must find the correct image among several cards. You can also show the child a picture with a written word (for example, "eyes") and ask him to show this part of the body.
7. When showing cards, it is advisable to group them into categories in advance (“animals”, “fruits”, etc.). You can show in different order. This can interfere with the child's perception of information and distract him from the process.
8. No need to show the same cards more than 3 times a day. Don't be afraid to enter new material if you do not observe the expected reaction of the baby. Perhaps he will like the new series of pictures more!

Doman's cards for learning to read

Subsequent days: in the end, you should increase the number of studied words per day to 25. In one lesson - 5 cards. Each card entered into display is shown 3 times a day. Thus in a day 15 lessons. And do not forget the cherished 30 minutes between studying the same cards - this necessary condition to achieve a result. After studying the word for 5 days, it must be removed from the impressions, since during this time the word should already be remembered.
