When the new school year starts. A new school year has begun for millions of schoolchildren and their parents. Australia and New Zealand

Although we all strongly associate the first of September with the Day of Knowledge, this was not always the case in Russia, for example, under Peter the Great, education in some gymnasiums could begin in August or October. And when academic year starts in other countries? We tell in today's article.

EUROPE

If you do not take the closest neighbors, then on the first of September the academic year traditionally begins in Belgium, the Baltic countries, Hungary, Macedonia, Ireland, Poland and Slovenia. But schoolchildren in Finland, Denmark, Germany and Scotland are less lucky, their school year begins in August. At the same time, if in Finland and Denmark classes at schools begin en masse in the second half of the last month of summer, and in Scotland - in the last week of summer, which is a little earlier than the average for the UK, then in Germany everything depends on the school: sometimes German children go to school in the last week of August, and sometimes (depending on the schedule of the educational institution) in early September.

The floating schedule of the beginning of classes is also practiced in Italy. It all depends on the region, and each year the start date for classes in schools is reported separately. For example, this year the vast majority of Italian schoolchildren will go to school on September 14, while schools in the Alto Adige region will open their doors on September 7, in Trentino on September 10, in Lazio and Emilia-Romagna on September 15, and in Veneto and Apulia on the 16th. By the way, in Italy it is believed that summer does not end on September 1, but lasts until September 22, so it is logical that children do not go to school in the midst of summer.

In addition, on September 15, classes begin in schools in Bulgaria and Romania, in France the school year begins on September 3rd, and in Greece on September 11th, or on the first Monday after September 11th, if X day falls on a holiday. In England, schoolchildren go to school in the first or second week of autumn, while in Croatia educational establishments They start work on the first Monday in September. By the way, as in Russia, in Bulgaria it is customary to give flowers to teachers on the first of September.

USA AND CANADA

In most schools in America and Canada, the beginning of school classes also falls on the first Monday of September, in addition, on the first day of classes, here, like ours, the so-called short school day is practiced, that is, on the first day of classes, students not only study, How much do you interact with your classmates?

CENTRAL AND LATIN AMERICA

AT Latin America winter begins just when summer begins for us, and autumn comes in March, which, of course, is directly reflected in the school schedule. So, the beginning of classes in Argentina, Costa Rica and Brazil falls on the first week of February, in Chile, schools open their doors to students on the first of March, and in Uruguay on the first Monday of March.

In the West Indies, the school schedule generally coincides with the European one, for example, in Barbados, schoolchildren go to gnaw on the granite of science in the third week of September, but in the countries of Central America it is rather difficult to isolate a general pattern: in Guatemala, for example, classes in schools begin in the second Monday in January, and in Honduras on the first of August.

Mexico stands apart, historically the Day of Knowledge here fell on September 2, but now the country's schools have a floating schedule, they start work in August, and the start date of classes is announced separately each time.

ASIA

In the vast majority of Asian countries, classes start, like ours, on the first of September, for example, in China, Hong Kong, Laos, Taiwan and Mongolia, and in Myanmar, schools begin to work on the second Wednesday of September. However, in many Asian countries, the beginning of the school year falls in the spring.

For example, in South Korea schooling begins on March 3rd, while in India schools open their doors in mid-March-early April, and in some states of this country, the start of studies falls on mid-June.

In Japan, educational institutions begin work on April 1, in Thailand - in May, after the celebration of the Thai New Year (its date is determined each time individually, but usually it falls in mid-April), and in the Philippines, schoolchildren go for knowledge in early June.

Singapore stands apart, here the beginning of school classes falls either in the first days of January or at the end of November, depending on the school. By the way, the academic year in Singapore lasts 40 weeks, at the end of the annual course, Singaporean students always pass the session, and the school holidays in Singapore last only 6 weeks. In a word, everything is harsh, you will not spoil!

NEAR EAST

In Israel, the start of classes in schools, as a rule, falls on September 1, however, sometimes the start date of the school year is postponed, for example, if the first day of autumn falls on Saturday or on national holidays, so in 2012 and 2013 the start of the school year in schools in Israel was rescheduled for August 27th.

In neighboring Arab countries, school classes also begin in September: in Iran - on September 22 or 23, which corresponds to the beginning of autumn according to the Persian calendar, in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates - on September 15, in Egypt - from September 15 to 24 , and in Oman and Saudi Arabia(yes, there are schools there too) The school year starts in the first week of September.

AFRICA

Oddly enough, but in many African countries, children also start going to school on the first of September, for example, in Ethiopia, Nigeria and Somalia, and in Algeria, Knowledge Day is traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday of September.

In some areas of Kenya, the start of school classes also falls on September 1, while in other regions of the country, the school year begins in January, immediately after the celebration of the New Year. In South Africa and Tanzania, the school year starts in mid-January, while in South Sudan School starts on March 20th.

AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

In Australia, the school year begins after the celebration of Australia Day, the main national holiday of the country, which is celebrated annually on January 26. However, if January 27 falls in the second half of the week, then schools shift the schedule for the start of classes towards the next Monday.

The main event of autumn, perhaps, is the Day of Knowledge - the beginning of a new academic year. On September 1, Russian schools traditionally hold solemn assembly lines with congratulations and performances. Many parents and students have already wondered when to go to school in 2018?

September 1, 2018: when children start school in 2018 on September 1 or 3

This question arose for a reason, since this year September 1 falls on a day off - Saturday. In this regard, many parents are concerned about the topical issue, when do children go to school in 2018 on September 1 or 3? The answer to the question is ambiguous, since each school chooses a specific date for the Knowledge Day, taking into account the wishes of children and parents.

September 1, 2018 is a public holiday. Most parents do not work on Saturday, and therefore they will be happy to attend the solemn line and the first day of school. This is especially true for first-graders - for them it begins new stage in life.

According to Russian law, if Knowledge Day falls on a day off, then the solemn rulers are transferred to a weekday, and this will be Monday, September 3rd. However, the exact date of the school line must be directly found out in your educational institution.

Innovations 2018-2019 academic year

For many years now, discussions have not ceased in educational departments about whether it is worth changing the duration of academic quarters and vacations. To date Russian schools work according to the established scheme. It implies that the procedure for assigning vacation time is just a recommendation from the Ministry of Science and Education. Before the start of the school year, the relevant department develops standards with recommended vacation dates for autumn, winter, spring and summer.

In turn, the school management and the teachers' council decide when it would be more convenient for them to schedule vacations. The only immutable requirement that all schools comply with is that the first day of vacation must fall on a Monday. The total duration of rest should be from 30 to 35 days. In the summer, two months of rest should be allocated for schoolchildren, and each quarter should be separated from the other by at least seven days of rest.

A potential reform in 2019 is to revive the practice of one-time student rest throughout the Russian Federation. This proposal of officials is explained by the fact that the start of vacations at different times does not make it possible to competently plan the holding of scientific and creative competitions, subject Olympiads and other events. If vacations everywhere begin and end on the same days, all students will be able to take part in scientific competitions without interrupting the educational process.

To coordinate this issue with parents, the Moscow educational department initiated a survey, offering several possible options for spending the holidays. In the survey, moms and dads could choose one of the options:

  • the classic organization of vacation periods - the academic year consists of quarters, separated by small weekly vacations in autumn, spring and winter, as well as a long rest during the summer;
  • the trimester structure of the year, which is also practiced in some schools - the academic year is divided into three parts, and the holidays between trimesters are longer;
  • semester structure - it resembles the organization of the educational process in universities, i.e. students will study for two semesters. The only difference is that for schoolchildren, the norms of school weeks are different from student ones, so the holidays will be much longer. This distribution of time will help to avoid winter quarantines, as the children themselves will stay at home during this time. However, this option is only suitable for high school students;
  • fractional year, divided into five parts - between academic quarters in this case, they propose to introduce small vacations by the week, allocating a little less time for rest in the summer.
It is possible that already in 2019, going on vacation will become centralized and will be subject to a strict schedule that is the same for all schools.

Each of the options provides for the preservation of the norms of the teaching load - during the 2018-2019 academic year, Russian schoolchildren will still receive holidays with a total duration of 34 to 35 days (excluding long summer vacations). However, each of these options was criticized in its own way, so the survey did not determine a clear favorite.

So far, it is assumed that the holidays in 2018-2019 will, as before, be determined by the school leadership. However, there is still enough time ahead for officials to make further proposals or reconsider their approach to organizing the school year. We will give an approximate vacation plan for the quarter and modular systems, which are now the most common in Russian schools.

Holidays at work in quarters

If we take into account the practice of past years, it is already possible to make a forecast for the 2018-2019 academic year. It will look like this:

  • First quarter: The beginning of the year will be September 3, as the first day of autumn falls on Saturday. However, on September 1, they can appoint a solemn line;
  • Autumn vacation: will start on 10/29/2018 and will last until 11/05/2018 inclusive (since October 5 is an official holiday in the country);
  • Second quarter: from 06.11.2018 to 28-29.12.2018 you will have to study. The fact is that the 31st is declared a day off, and its working off is postponed to Saturday, so that someone can be assigned a couple of lessons;
  • The winter vacation: will be held from 31.12.2018 to 10.01.2019 inclusive. However, January 11 is Friday, so it is unlikely that schoolchildren will be expelled to study for just one day. With a favorable set of circumstances, one can count on not having to study until the very Old New Year, i.e. until 01/13/2019 inclusive;
  • Third quarter: On January 14, 2019, all Russian schoolchildren will have to go to class. 03/22/2019 (Friday) is likely to be the last day of school for this term;
  • Spring Break: can be appointed from 03/25/2019 to 03/31/2019 inclusive;
  • Fourth quarter: On 04/01/2019, the last training period will begin, which will last until 05/24-31/2019.
  • Summer vacation will start on 05/25/2019 or 06/01/2019.

Recall that first-graders are entitled to additional winter vacations. They can be expected from 02/18/2019 to 02/25/2019 inclusive. Monday will be a holiday due to the postponement holiday, since February 23, 2019 will fall on a Saturday.

Holidays with modular training

With any training scheme, students will be able to relax for 34-35 days during the school year (not counting the summer holidays)

Russian schoolchildren who are taught according to the principles of the modular system (5-6 weeks of study and 1 week of rest) are likely to study and rest according to the following schedule:

  • First module: the beginning of the year will be the first Monday of autumn - 09/03/2018. The first training period will last until 05.10.2018;
  • First autumn vacation: will be appointed on 08.10.2018-14.10.2018 inclusive;
  • Second module: from 10/15/2018 it will be necessary to start mastering knowledge. This study period will last until 11/16/2018;
  • Second autumn holiday: one more free week, most likely, will go to students in the period from 11/19/2018 to 11/25/2018;
  • Third module: from November 26, 2018 until the end of December, you will have to immerse yourself in the educational process;
  • First winter vacation: you can escape from educational worries in the period from 12/31/2018 to 01/10/2019 inclusive. Recall that in 2019 January 11 will fall on Friday, so you can expect that the rest will continue until January 13 - the Old New Year;
  • Fourth module: from 01/14/2019 to 02/15/2019 inclusive, it will be necessary to gnaw at the granite of science;
  • Second winter holiday: one more vacation will most likely be scheduled for 18.02.2019-25.02.2019 inclusive. An additional day of rest for students will ensure the transfer of the holiday on February 23 from Saturday to the next Monday;
  • Fifth module: from 02/26/2019 to 04/05/2019 - the next period of study;
  • Spring break: vacations in the spring will be held from 04/08/2019 to 04/14/2019 inclusive;
  • Sixth module: from April 15, the last period of lessons will begin, which will end on May 24 or 31, 2019. Then schoolchildren will be able to thoroughly relax on summer vacations.

Such fractional graph study does not involve the introduction of additional vacations for first-graders. However, in case of frosts or quarantines for babies, another rest period may be introduced. We also remind you that this schedule was drawn up for schools that study on a five-day basis - they are the majority in Russia. If your child goes to school on Saturdays, you just need to adjust the forecast for one day.

In Moscow, the Moscow region and a number of other regions, summer holidays lasted two days longer - Knowledge Day fell on Saturday. However, the third of September passed no less solemnly than the first. Flowers, emotions, meetings with classmates and teachers. The main characters of the holiday are first-graders. There are more than a hundred thousand of them this year in Moscow alone. Together with them, former students, politicians and other famous people, also came to schools today.

Nearly two million first-graders across the country entered school for the first time this year. And in total - 15 million 600 thousand schoolchildren. Somewhere very modestly - with traditional tablets in the hands of teachers who gather their students who have matured over the summer. Somewhere - under a brass band. Under his music, eleventh-graders of first-graders were led to their first real lesson in their lives. And somewhere even under the greeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Sergei Lavrov, together with Andrei Vorobyov, Governor of the Moscow Region, visited the Yevgeny Primakov Gymnasium in the Odintsovo District today.

“I hope that you will learn in this gymnasium all the traditions that we want to pass on from generation to generation, from Evgeny Maksimovich Primakov on to all those who love their country and want to achieve high results in the most different areas life,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“I want to wish every high school student success in this difficult work - study. And of course, I really hope that each of us, parents, will help, contribute so that our children receive both education and upbringing here, ”said Andrey Vorobyov, Governor of the Moscow Region.

Most of the country was worried today. Moms and dads - for children, grandparents - for grandchildren. And the children themselves. After all, they did not see their friends for a whole summer, and studying is not scary!

“It’s not so scary anymore, because you understand that there are familiar people around you and if something happens, they can help,” Sergey said.

But how excited are future graduates, eleventh graders, on their last First of September.

“When I used to look at graduates, it seemed to me that they were ready-made adults, so it seems to me that I am still just a child,” Alexandra admitted.

These first-graders are just starting to get to know each other and so far they answer the question “What is your favorite school subject?”

“The most favorite objects are circle, oval and rectangle,” said Artem.

Someone does not part with their favorite toy to the last and is looking for support from dads or moms, because just yesterday he was a preschooler. And someone, like seven-year-old Petya, is confident in himself. He keeps himself confident, because he has already been at the first call with his older brothers and sisters more than once. Therefore, his mother is more worried about him today.

Gennady Zyuganov went to first grade 67 years ago. But today, as he says, he remembers that day very well.

“I studied with my own mother when I came to the 1st grade. She taught for 40 years in a rural school, and not just taught, many parents tried to send their children to her in the first place, because the teacher primary school- this is the second mother, ”says Gennady Zyuganov.

Of course, the first teacher is like a second mother. After all, first-graders will share with her, and they already share everything they keep secret.

They will definitely grow into inventors, scientists, and simply excellent specialists. Sergei Sobyanin opened Technopark in Moscow today. A place where schoolchildren from the age of seven will be able to get acquainted with dozens of professions. And it's not just their presentation.

“But also a real opportunity to get these specialties. There is no such project yet either in the city or in the country. The best educational technologies that were created for last years", - said the mayor of Moscow.

Perhaps this center will be the first step towards future profession. After all, they are students! The arrival of our film crew was a good occasion to record an interview for school television with the director himself.

“Do you like running this school?” he was asked.

“Now yes. It used to be difficult, sometimes I wanted to quit everything. But I found good teachers for myself, and they helped me,” Alexey Kulikov replied.

Finding good teachers is also a science. This profession, of course, can be taught, but it must be in the heart. And, of course, teachers always remember their First of September.

“I guess I was more worried when I went to school. Because I didn’t understand what would happen there, I didn’t know what they would do with me there. - When did you decide to become a teacher? - Too early. Probably when I got two dolls. And when it was three, I already knew for sure that I would be a teacher,” said primary school teacher Marina Sarahman.

Today, many well-known people in the country have come to the schools. Not just to remember your first grade. Sergei Shoigu today congratulated the boarding school of the students of the Ministry of Defense on its tenth anniversary. Girls study here from the fifth to the eleventh grade. Except for the real army daily routine with an early rise and drill, this is a school whose graduates go to serve in the army after graduation.

“The issues that have already passed show that we have a growing generation that we dreamed of. I believe that it was laid 10 years ago and what we see today is, of course, a vivid image of what we can be proud of, what we can and should strive for,” the Minister of Defense said.

But the head of the Tula region opened the Center for the Support of Gifted Children in Yasnaya Polyana where university teachers will be teachers for schoolchildren. The schoolchildren here are not ordinary - winners and prize-winners of intellectual competitions and olympiads. In fact, this is a regional version of the All-Russian Sirius Center in Sochi.

"Dear guys, go ahead, go to the mountains, don't be afraid difficult road. Be determined to win and succeed. And I'm sure you will succeed. Good luck to you!” - said Alexey Dyumin.

Several members of the All-Russian popular front” held a “Lesson of Russia” for schoolchildren in different cities in order to tell, no matter how trite it may sound, how the Motherland begins.

“I hope that the guys will have some more questions that they will ask so that this does not turn into some kind of monologue, so that it is not boring, so that this lesson remains in their memory as something pleasant, and not dreary, on which you fall asleep, ”said Petr Tolstoy, deputy chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, expert of the Central Headquarters of the ONF.

No, they certainly won't sleep tonight. Even first-graders who are not yet accustomed to going so early are not Kindergarten to toys, but to knowledge. After all, this is the beginning of adulthood.
