Why should a student learn Russian for 11 years, if you can prepare for the Unified State Examination in a few months

Children have forgotten how to write correctly, parents and teachers complain. And even the culprit was immediately found - a computer. To communicate in instant messengers and chats, you don’t need smart extended phrases (no one even reads them to the end), it’s much more important to be able to fit a thought into the allotted number of characters. And if you suddenly need to write a long text, then there is Word for this, which will highlight all the errors and suggest the correct option. Why, then, learn all these rules and torture yourself with exercises? Is it possible to prepare for the exam in the Russian language in a few months? And will anyone else write with pen on paper in the future?

This is our conversation with Yulia Fishman, the creator of the “I can write” portal, which this year entered the top 100 organizations of additional education in Russia.

Yulia Petrovna, do you also think that the level of literacy is falling catastrophically?

Julia Fishman: Falls. And it's not just about spelling and punctuation, but about the ability to express your thoughts orally and in writing.

Students are forced to write an essay, but they have absolutely nothing to say, because they do not read much. And if they read, then not everyone and not always understand what they read, because they do not know the history. How to understand "Borodino" if you don't know anything about Napoleon?

Sometimes text analysis has to start with highlighting replicas with multi-colored markers. So that a student of the 11th grade could count the number of heroes by colors. And only then we find out what exactly the characters are saying. And kids are stupid.

Everything, of course, depends on a specific school, a specific teacher, but I get the impression that many people in schools have not even tried to teach. Guys cannot write down thoughts on paper, especially observing spelling and stylistic norms. They hardly understand the meaning of the text if it is not a caption for the picture in the presentation.

If we are talking about literacy as a combination of all these elements, then the situation is close to catastrophic. And if only about spelling, then everything is not so bad. Here parents scold Word, and I usually say: "And thank God that emphasizes". If a child is not taught at school, then he will at least see the correctly spelled word on the computer screen. Maybe even remember.

At one time, children at school were really taught to answer only test questions. But recently they brought back the obligatory essay, and test items less and less in exams.

Julia Fishman: Have you seen the criteria for evaluating essays? Five mistakes on 100 words - This means that in the average essay (300 words) can be allowed 15 mistakes and get credit. Previously for 3-4 mistakes in an essay on 600 words triplets were placed.

And in the Unified State Examination, according to the Russian criteria, it is even worse. You can easily prepare for the exam in a year. And if you really need it, then in two or three months. And a completely illiterate student will get a score above average. Just understand how to fill out the test correctly. And how in this situation to explain to someone that it is necessary to form the skill of competent writing? What for? This will not be asked anywhere: neither at the exam, nor at the university, nor at work. In 10 years, modern schoolchildren will become parents themselves. And they will no longer send children to tutors and force them to do exercises. They will say: "I don't know and it's all good". A generation is already beginning to work in schools "victims of the exam", as I call it. Those who passed the USE graduated from pedagogical universities and became teachers. Some of them sincerely believe that the test is the best test of knowledge, that it is impossible to teach writing correctly, and they will prepare for the exam anyway.

Unfortunately, literacy as a value is disappearing.

Does she need it? Word will fix everything, the Internet will tell you, you don’t even need to enter anything in the search bar, just say ...

Julia Fishman: I noticed that when they talk about the man of the future, his competencies, they generally keep silent about literacy. The ability to work effectively in a team is much more appreciated. Indeed, short news texts are now written by robots, lecturers-teachers are generally a thing of the past, for understanding within the team literate writing not needed and so on. Whatever you do, literacy itself does not seem to be needed in the future. But if we refuse it, we will get the lower cube from the pyramid.

When forming a literate letter, a lot of body mechanisms are turned on, important neural connections arise.

If you remove this cube, everything else will immediately begin to collapse: thinking, reading comprehension, and communication speed will slow down. As a result, the people of the future will not be able to work on projects in effective teams.

The Americans have experimented. They tried to teach children not to write with a pen, but to type directly on the keyboard. As a result, the experimental class showed poor results in all subjects. It turned out that when children are just typing, the brain works differently and a significant part of the information is simply not absorbed even in oral subjects. The experiment was stopped.

And I want people for whom literacy has at least some value to be able to study somewhere themselves and educate their children if their school did not solve such a problem. That is why I created my site "I Can Write". So that students can learn and teachers can share experiences.

Were you able to achieve what you set out to do?

Julia Fishman: Yes. But not everyone really wants to learn and teach. Schoolchildren, for example, come to the portal mainly for freebies. Why are you torturing us with all sorts of difficulties? Why do we need to learn these rules? Give us a set of life hacks that will help us pass our exams. Give ready-made solutions, and we just write off. Sometimes it gets ridiculous. On the forum, we check the compositions of users for free. Half of the essays are copy-paste. Why send other people's compositions for verification is completely incomprehensible. Some even manage to send essays taken from our forum under their own names. Who are they deceiving?

Some teachers do the same. In the chat, the consultant is constantly asked where to download the lesson notes. We have described different methods of work, given sets of materials. But to choose from this the right one, meaningfully build it into the lesson, I think the teacher himself should. However, site users often insist that they be given everything ready.

You offer links to materials, they are also offended: “So you have to choose there. Highlight the right paragraph for me.

Activities are imitated at school: one by one prepared abstracts they allegedly teach, while others allegedly perform tasks according to the GDZ and essay templates. Then exams are held, which allegedly check literacy.

I am very happy when colleagues appear on the site who, despite this situation, work honestly, when students appear who really learn, and do not ask to write off. It makes sense to do something for them.

Tell me, does innate literacy exist, or can anyone develop this skill?
Julia Fishman: Innate literacy explain by the fact that a child under the age of 8 reads a lot in syllables, pronounces words, so he develops the skill of spelling reading. If this skill is developed, a person will write correctly. But it seems to me that everything is not so simple. My son immediately began to write correctly, although no one specially trained him. I'm still struggling with my ignorance laughs). Having looked at my school notebooks already at a conscious age, I realized that I was a dysgraph. But in those years, such a diagnosis was not known in schools, no one was engaged in correction, they simply scolded for inattention.

They say that today almost every tenth dysgraph.

Julia Fishman: If not every fifth. I judge by talking with parents and teachers. Maybe something has changed in ecology or they began to teach differently, but something definitely went wrong. good teachers primary school it is necessary to retrain them so that they give children more corrective or at least preventive exercises for dysgraphia.

Julia Fishman: Do not force children to endlessly rewrite exercises or write dictations every day. If a child makes the same mistakes day after day, this is not learning. Do more exercises that really teach, not test. All these "write and insert a letter", "write from dictation"- the control. First, several times in games, show the child the correct spelling of the word. Only after that ask them to write the words separately from dictation, then the same words in the text.

I have a lot of tutorials on my site. For example, you need to divide words into two groups: in one with the letter BUT, and in the other with O. And the child sees these letters. Yes, this is a game of giveaway, yes, no need to think, but it works, because the child remembers the words visually. In the "Useful" section, you can create cards for games "Sea battle", "Couples","Lotto".

Here is an exercise for adults. In the lower right corner on almost all pages of "I can write" there is a round sign "learn 15 words". From spelling dictionary for high school randomly selected 15 words that appear on the screen in turn. They need to be looked at 5-7 minutes. If you do this exercise regularly, I assure you, you will become more literate in writing.
