The Tale of the Indecisive Doe and the Sea

In a country far, far away, there is a Magic Forest. Giant trees grow there, and the ground is covered with bright green grass. The streams there shimmer in the sun like multi-colored diamonds, and the glades are strewn with bright flowers. It is never cold in this forest - the sun always shines there and a warm, gentle wind blows. Animals and birds of this forest can talk.

The heroine of our fairy tale lived in this forest. Her name was Indecisive Doe.

She had such a name because she did not know how to make decisions, even the simplest ones. She was used to her mother deciding everything for her. Even though Indecisive Doe was already quite an adult, they still lived together in the same clearing. Doe obeyed her mother in everything - what time to get up, where to eat grass and where to drink water from by the stream.

All the days of Indecisive Lani and her mother passed the same way. Every morning they got up at the same time, stretched, drank water from the stream, and then slowly grazed until evening. The native glade was the whole world for the Indecisive Lani, because she almost never left it - except on Sundays, when they went to visit the Stubborn Crested Goat.

In these cases, the mother always walked in front, and the Indecisive Doe walked behind her, burying her nose in her tail and not turning her head either to the right or to the left, so as not to get lost on the road. In addition to the tail, she saw nothing! But to Indecisive Lani, this seemed completely normal, because getting lost and left alone, without a mother, seemed to her the worst thing that could happen. Who then will make the decisions?

Despite all precautions, one Sunday an unexpected, completely unexpected incident occurred.

Indecisive Doe and her mother went to the Crested Stubborn Goat. Mom, as always, walked in front, and Lan behind, buried in her tail.

They walked slowly and measuredly, everything was as usual - a familiar path, familiar grains of sand, familiar blades of grass.

Tsok-tsok -

as always, rhythmically tapped their neat hooves….

Shhhhh -

as always, the grass around was rustling from the wind ...

tsyk-tsyk -

as always, grasshoppers crackled.

And suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, Indecisive Doe noticed something unusual. She looked away from her mother's tail and saw a butterfly, a very beautiful butterfly. Large, bright blue; her round wings looked like two large flowers, and at the ends of her tendrils were beads of morning dew. "Oh!" – only the Indecisive Doe could exhale in admiration.

From such beauty, she forgot about everything - and about her mother, and about the Crested Goat, and about the tail, from which she should not be distracted. On the large round wings of the butterfly was painted the Sea - something that the Indecisive Doe heard about a long time ago ... "Can there really be so much water?" she thought and stopped. Her mouth opened by itself in surprise, and her eyes became like two round saucers. The butterfly kept circling in front of her, making beautiful patterns in the air. The indecisive Doe was fascinated by her and the Sea on her wings, but then

ONCE! -

The butterfly made an elegant somersault and quickly flew off into the distance, into the blue sky.

Indecisive Lan sighed sadly as she followed her with her gaze.

“Probably the butterfly flew to the Sea,” she thought, and turned to follow her mother further. But ... mom was nowhere to be found!

The indecisive Lan ran to the left, and then to the right, and then to the left again - but mother disappeared!

She cried out plaintively:

- Mum! Mum!

But no one answered her.

- Mum! Mum! Shouted Doe Doe even louder.

But mother did not hear the Indecisive Doe. She has already gone far; besides, she had bad hearing.

Indecisive Lan was completely at a loss. For the first time, she is completely alone in an unfamiliar clearing, and does not know the way either back home or to the Crested Nonsensical Goat! She does not remember any paths or clearings she walked along - after all, she never took her eyes off her mother's tail! What to do?

She stomped a little on the spot, and then took a few timid steps on the silky grass and froze in front of a tall, thick tree.

She had to make a decision - which way to bypass it?

She began to think:

Maybe go left? It seems to be good there ... But what if there is something dangerous there?

Maybe go right? But after all, it can also be dangerous there ... And on the left and on the right, something completely unknown ...

Ah, where should I go?!

These thoughts completely baffled Lan. How difficult everything is! Not knowing how to make a decision, she wailed plaintively: Why is there no path or sign?

Why doesn't anyone come to my aid?

Why is nothing clear in this forest?

Where is mom?!

But only the rustle of leaves was her answer.

Indecisive, Doe sat down in front of the tree and wept in despair.

She cried and cried... Sometimes, hearing some sound, she trembled all over and looked around with hope - maybe it was her mother who came back for her? But, realizing that it was just one of the noises of the Magic Forest, she lowered her head sadly again.

So she sat and was sad, until suddenly she heard the rustle of wings and chirping.

In front of her stood a small gray sparrow. There were black specks on his wings, and a funny crest on his head. His eyes were huge and round, bright blue, which is very unusual for sparrows. He looked at the Indecisive Doe, tilting his head to the right, then to the left.

- Chick-chirp! he greeted.

Lan looked at him in surprise.

Sparrow jumped closer, flapped his little wings and greeted again:

- Chick - chirp - hello!

Indecisive Lan greeted quietly:

- Hey!

“What are you doing here, chirp-chirp?” Why are you sitting and crying - chirp? asked the sparrow.

A rich man had a son. His father raised him at home, and as the guy grew up, he sent him around the world, but not to make money, but to gain intelligence, to see how hard people live and how much work they have to do to honestly live their short life. His father gave him money for the journey, told him to take care of it, read the instructions, blessed him and let him go.

Wandering around the world, the young man came to a city. He looks - they are leading a man to the gallows. A young man runs up, asks what the unfortunate man did wrong and why they want to execute him.

He has many debts, and since he has nothing to pay, then, according to the laws of our country, he was sentenced to death penalty, they answer him.

Hearing this, the young man turned to the judges:

Judge Lord! May I pay this man's debts and ransom him?

You are welcome. Pay up and do what you want with it.

The young man gave away all his money, sold off his clothes down to the last shirt, and finally collected as much as he needed. The judges gave him the debtor, and they went together around the world, begging for alms.

One evening they lay down to rest. Redeemed debtor and says:

I'm tired of this life, and I'm sorry to look at you. You are suffering because of me. Let's go to the forest. There I have a named sister, a sorceress-vila. She will tell us how to get rich.

The young man agreed. They went to the forest. The path is long. The debtor goes ahead, the young man behind him. Finally they came. They see that the trees are tall - up to the moon itself, the leaves on them are golden, the trunks are silver. And among the trees a bright flame burns and smoke curls over the fire. The young man was frightened and asked:

What is it? Some kind of miracle!

A friend replies:

Don't be afraid, all my named sisters and their mothers are here. The two of us cannot approach them. I will go ahead and tell them that we have come to live with them. And you wait for me over there under that tree; it is all of gold, and its leaves are pearl. But if you value your life, don't say a word until I return. Under the golden tree in the summer all the pitchforks are gathered and embroidered on the hoop. And if they see a young man in the forest, they will bewitch him with their eyes and turn him into some kind of beast.

He said this and disappeared, as if he had fallen through the ground. Some time has passed. The young man got tired of waiting, and he went through the forest. Suddenly he sees a round dance of winged girls. He hid himself to look at them and listen to their songs. Unfortunately, she noticed him singing, bewitched, and at the same moment he was blind and dumb. He got scared and cried. Out of nowhere, his comrade flew in on wings, took his hand and said:

What are you so afraid of?

The young man told with signs what had happened to him. He took out a small pipe from his belt, climbed a tree and began to play. So many pitchforks and sorcerers, brothers and sisters, sworn brothers and named sisters flocked from all sides that it is impossible to count. They began to look in the forest for some healing herbs and treat the young man with them. He immediately regained his sight, and the gift of speech returned to him. The pitchforks took him in and married him. He got rich. But when he got old, he repented of his sins and returned home. He found his father already at death. I said goodbye to him, buried him, and lived the life of a righteous man until his death. But every summer he went to the forest to visit former friends.
