Polish architect Jakub Scheshny claims to have built the narrowest house in the world, measuring just 122 centimeters wide. The house is compressed and placed in a narrow space between an old house from the Second World War and a modern apartment in the very center of Warsaw. The project has been named the Kerret House, after Israeli writer and filmmaker Edgar Kerret. It was he who led this project and will live here for six months.

The two-story house is made primarily of aluminum and plastic. At its narrowest point, its width is only 72 centimeters, and at its widest - 122. The structure goes 10 meters deep between two houses, and 9 meters high.


With the help of metal and aluminum pipes, the structure is raised above the ground by 3 meters. To squeeze in the door, visitors first climb the stairs and only then enter the smallest and narrowest house in the world. On the ground floor there is a toilet and shower, a kitchen with sewerage, wardrobes, a table for two, a sofa and armchairs. A staircase leads to the second floor, there is a full double bed, a table and a chair. The house has no windows, instead using a perforated steel façade to let in light.


“At first it seems that building a living space within such an area is simply impossible,” says architect Jakub Schesni. The Keret house must contradict this false statement while expanding the notion of impossible architecture.” It really is the narrowest house in the world.



“We are deeply convinced that this will become a symbol of modern Warsaw, in its complex history. The building attracts media attention from around the world. We hope that the Keret House will show the most exciting side of Warsaw,” say the curators of the project, representing the Polish Foundation for Contemporary Art.
