Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita is one of the greatest works of Russian literature of the 20th century. It is very multifaceted, it can be reread repeatedly, each time finding new meaning. This is a mystery novel, a revelation novel that will be remembered for a lifetime.

The events take place in the 30-40s of the 20th century. The devil arrives in Moscow along with his retinue, and before people he appears as a foreigner. Woland starts conversations about religion, the existence of God, mystically interfering in the destinies of people. He gives a performance at the Variety Theater, where he performs absolutely incredible tricks. It gives women the opportunity to choose any outfit for themselves absolutely free. But when they leave the theater, they remain completely naked, their clothes disappear. Woland's personality is mysterious, no one really knows anything about him. And he administers justice, punishing people for greed, cowardice, deceit, and betrayal.

The second line in the plot is love. Margarita, the wife of an important official, meets the Master, an unknown writer. They are united by a forbidden, fatal love, but at the same time it is deep and calm. The master writes a book about the ancient city of Yershalaim, in which Pontius Pilate judges Jesus Christ. Critics ridicule the religious themes. The reading of religious literature and the Gospel was prohibited in the country.

The novel touches on the theme of the existence of God, faith, and justice. Woland and his retinue expose many human vices, punishing the guilty. The love of the Master and Margarita, sincere and devoted, is capable of going through the most difficult trials.

Despite the fact that the novel describes the 30-40s of the 20th century, the questions raised in it are relevant to this day. It is regrettable to note that even after many years, people still strive for power, are ready to go over their heads for the sake of a career and money, they lie and betray. The novel makes you think that love, kindness and honesty are still more important in life.

About the book “The Master and Margarita” Mikhail Bulgakov

Today we want to talk about the most famous and always relevant book by Mikhail Bulgakov - “The Master and Margarita”, and a little later we will talk about.

You can download this truly unique work in fb2, epub, rtf, txt formats at the bottom of the page.

“The Master and Margarita” is perhaps the most serious work in Russian literature of the twentieth century. The fact is that the novel, which actually exposes the insignificant essence and all the absurdity of the totalitarian regime, appears precisely in the 30s - the dawn of Stalin’s rampage. And how truly strong Mikhail Bulgakov had to be to create this particular book in such a difficult period...

Many people think that “The Master and Margarita” is a work about love between a writer and a woman. But love - and not only between a man and a woman, but for all people in general - is only one “layer” of this novel within a novel (yes, that’s what literary critics call it).

Due to the fact that the book really consists of two separate works, it is believed that there are two storylines in the novel “The Master and Margarita” - the first, respectively, about the fate of the writer, and the second, which takes the reader two thousand years ago, to Yeshua . Perhaps, in some sense, such thoughts are close to the truth, but we must not forget about the third level of the novel, dedicated to the afterlife and all otherworldly evil spirits.

In general, this novel by Mikhail Bulgakov is, first of all, a work about morality. More precisely, about the decline of it as such in Russian society of the 30s of the last century. It is a mistake to believe that “The Master and Margarita” is a work that exalts the powers of the devil. On the contrary, the novel itself is very religious, which is easily explained by the state of the author himself at the time of its writing.

In the book “The Master and Margarita” there is the Devil and all sorts of evil spirits, which open up enormous opportunities for people. But is this really necessary? Margarita eventually became a Witch, and all this because of her love for the Master.

Initially, Bulgakov in his work “The Master and Margarita” did not describe the fate of the Master and Margarita. As a result, he burned the first manuscript due to the fact that it was not approved for publication, but this work was very important for the writer. On one of the pages of the manuscript the phrase was found: “Lord, help me finish this book.” He took it up again, and that’s when the main characters appeared. Initially, the Master was supposed to be a Poet, then Faust. In addition, the book itself mentions the incident of burning the manuscript.

Probably, in one short review it is simply impossible to convey the full depth and genius of Bulgakov’s work. Philosophical layers seem to be superimposed on each other, as a result of which we see good and evil, hatred and friendship, sincerity and hypocrisy, loyalty and mercy. And above all this, of course, morality soars - as Bulgakov himself saw it, and as it is commonly understood in brilliant classical literature...

Quotes from the book “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov

Love jumped out in front of us, like a killer jumps out of the ground in an alley, and struck us both at once!

Who told you that there is no true, faithful, eternal love in the world? May the liar's vile tongue be cut out!

Yes, man is mortal, but that would not be so bad. The bad thing is that he is sometimes suddenly mortal, that's the trick!

After all, how many times have I told you that your main mistake is that you underestimate the importance of human eyes. Understand that the tongue can hide the truth, but the eyes never!

Follow me, reader! Who told you that there is no true, faithful, eternal love in the world? May the liar's vile tongue be cut out!

... so who are you, finally?
– I am part of that force that always wants evil and always does good.

- Is this vodka? – Margarita asked weakly.
The cat jumped up in his chair from offense.
“For mercy, queen,” he croaked, “would I allow myself to pour vodka for the lady?” This is pure alcohol!

M.A. Bulgakov. Master and Margarita. Novel. Electronic edition. 2014 2nd edition, revised. There is no need to introduce Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita” to readers. It is called “a masterpiece of world literature”, “the most mysterious novel of the 20th century”, “great”, even “sunset” and so on and so forth... It is studied by philologists, admired or criticized by readers, songs are written about it, films are made about it. But the illustrations for this novel require comment. They were created by the famous illustrator Andrey Karapetyan. He works in the style of “symbolism”. Therefore, his drawings are not only illustrations, but also “symbolic compositions”, each of which deserves careful consideration. And at the same time, they perfectly accompany the events taking place in the novel and illustrate them. In addition, these works by A. Karapetyan have a unique feature: they have not yet been PUBLISHED in the form of a paper book. BYE. So this book is originally a handcrafted “digital” compilation. The electronic text of Roman M. Bulgakov and copies of illustrations for the novel, taken from the Internet, were used. The book was laid out for reading on a PC screen and an electronic “reader” (A5 format). There is a table of contents. For PC, 2-page viewing is recommended. This makes it easier to feel that the text is accompanied by illustrations. And it looks a little like a “real” book. Contents: 1. PREFACE from the manufacturer of the e-book 2. M.A. Bulgakov The Master and Margarita. Novel 3. APPENDIX (Notes from the e-book manufacturer) 4.
