The French Institute was created in Moscow in 1992. It is an official center for foreign language learning. This cultural department of the embassy receives more than 3,000 students annually. The goal of the educational institution is to help everyone who wants to learn the French language. The article describes in detail what French language courses are available in Moscow at the embassy and how to sign up for them.

What are the advantages of studying at an embassy?

French language courses in Moscow at the embassy have many advantages:

  1. The French Institute is the main expert in language learning. It teaches only French, which is presented in the form of various programs and courses. The level of knowledge acquired here meets world standards.
  2. Teachers regularly take part in international conferences and research that are aimed at studying new teaching methods and technologies.
  3. The institute at the embassy is the representation of the republic around the world. Therefore, there is no doubt about the quality of the knowledge provided.

How to sign up for French language training

Registration for classes takes place in several stages. If you have not taken the training before, you will be invited to an interview with the teacher before enrolling. This is done in order to determine the program that is right for you. Those who completed training more than four months ago or those who want to take an international exam undergo the same interview.

Interview

An interview with teachers will help:

  • Set a goal for your language learning.
  • The teacher will assess your level of knowledge.
  • A technique will be selected for you that will allow you to achieve the best results.
  • The student will become familiar with the methods and lesson plan.

The interview lasts from 40 minutes to one hour. The cost of an interview for the general course is 300 rubles, for preparation for passing international exams - 1000 rubles.

Meetings with teachers take place three times a week:

  1. On Tuesday from 17:00 to 19:00 hours.
  2. On Wednesday from 16:30 to 18:30.
  3. On Saturday from 14:30 to 17:00.

During periods of peak student flow, meeting times may be changed.

On the day of the interview, you need to contact the administrator, register, and pay for testing. After passing the practice test, you go to a conversation with the teacher. Once you pass the interview, you can complete your enrollment in the course and program of study you want. The recording will be considered completed only after payment has been made. If you do not pay on time, your application will be automatically canceled and you will have to re-apply for an interview.

Today there are many places in Moscow where you can learn foreign languages in an informal setting, get acquainted with the cultures of different countries, and spend time interestingly and usefully.

However, many of these sites are paid, and not everyone can afford to visit them. Visiting such places turns out to be problematic, for example, for schoolchildren and students.

IFL student Valeria Minkova decided to find places and events to study and practice the French language that would not interfere with the educational process, would leave free time for relaxation and would not require large financial expenditures.

She has prepared an overview of the most popular and convenient places where students can learn and practice French.

Les enfants d'Olga

Les enfants d'Olga is the official name of Olga Rubinskaya’s charity program and organization.

The program brings together people who are interested in French speech and French culture, as well as relations between France and Russia. I met this organization through a friend of mine who, like me, is interested in French culture and studies the French language. Through her, I managed to contact one of the organizers of this program, who invited me to the next meeting, to the so-called “French breakfast”. The meeting took place in the cafe-bakery “Daily Bread” at the Kitay-Gorod metro station and was scheduled for Sunday morning, so it could not in any way interfere with my educational process at the institute. The first meeting with the program participants seemed very interesting and exciting to me. People of different ages and professions took part in it. At the beginning of the meeting, the organizer announced the topic of our conversation and each participant had to speak. The conversation was conducted exclusively in French.

Despite the fact that the level of language proficiency among the meeting participants varied quite a lot, everyone expressed their ideas and emotions without fear of making mistakes, since the atmosphere was very cozy and calm. Almost everyone ordered tea, coffee and croissants.

I managed to find new acquaintances, practice and improve my communication skills. The meeting lasted approximately two hours, at the end, as a new participant in the program, I was added to the Les enfants d’Olga charity program community on social networks so that I could independently learn about upcoming events and plan my participation in them.

Theater group in French under the direction of I.L. Nagle

Theater group in French under the direction of Nagle I.L. is a creative association of amateur actors who stage plays and participate in productions in French. The theater association is located in the Moscow City House of Teachers, at the Tretyakovskaya, Paveletskaya and Novokuznetskaya metro stations. I was able to attend one of their performances.

The performance was staged based on the play “Eight Women” by R. Tom. The audience was shown the first and second acts of the play; at the beginning it was announced that the last part would be shown at the beginning of 2020.

I found the performance fascinating, despite the fact that it was sometimes difficult to understand French. After the performance there was a discussion where the audience was able to express their emotions and ask questions.

It turned out that every person who speaks French has the opportunity to get into a theater troupe and try themselves in theatrical art, which will not only improve their communication skills, but also learn acting.

Participation in the work of a theater group is free, but a person who wants to become part of it should understand that the demands in the theater are great and one must be prepared for hard work and not miss rehearsals. Typically, rehearsals take place in the afternoon several times a week, so they will not interfere with the educational process, however, there will be less time for rest.

Francotheque

Francothèque, Francotheque is the cultural center of the Library of Foreign Literature. M.I.Rudomino. This is a great place where you can find many books in French, sit, read and work. Visitors have the opportunity to take with them the necessary literature for work. The library has a very pleasant atmosphere, there is a cafe and free internet. Various events are regularly held here, in which everyone can take part.

A visit to the Francotheque allows you to improve your language, always stay up to date with the cultural and political events of France, make new interesting acquaintances, and also usefully spend time in a pleasant environment.

At the beginning of each month, a schedule of events is published on the official pages of the Frankoteka on social networks, which allows you to plan your time in advance, combining a visit to the Frankoteka with work and study.

Official website of the French Embassy in Moscow

You can find information about French events that take place in Russia, about news about politics and culture in France. The website publishes news about upcoming exhibitions dedicated to French culture, about the days of Francophonie, about places where you can feel the atmosphere of France in Moscow. There are often announcements of paid, rather expensive events that are not always available to students. However, if you wish, you can find interesting and affordable events that are easy to combine with study and work. It is important that the site allows you to get acquainted with various practices of learning French in Moscow.

Alliance Française official website

Alliance Française is a public organization registered on the territory of the Russian Federation. The main goal of the Alliance Française is to promote the French language and culture, which corresponds to the principles of the Alliance Française Foundation of Paris.

The official website of the Alliance Française contains all the necessary information about ways to study and practice the French language in Russia. Here you can find information about programs that allow you to go on an internship to France, and about language courses for all age categories. However, these programs are paid, and not every student can afford to take part in them. But the site also contains information about the French Internet resource TV5monde, where anyone can learn French and practice it completely free of charge by viewing various materials. There is only one drawback to this practice of language learning - the lack of live communication, all communication takes place on a non-verbal level.
