If you liked the Witcher game and went from it to the Stained Glass House comic book, the next stop on your path should probably be the books. Fortunately, it is very easy to find them and they are much more famous here than, for example, in the USA. If you go in the direction of books - as quickly as possible pass by the movie and series. Don't thank me later. But I'll tell you what - why not make a small detour along the way and turn briefly towards the comics? After all, the history of witcher comics did not begin yesterday. The first series of comics about Geralt was published in Poland in 1993-1995 in the form of six plump singles (those called giant-size). The choice of stories for this series was carried out according to the principle "all the hits and why else" - "The Witcher", "The Lesser Evil", "The Last Wish" and "The Limit of the Possible" got there, and for some reason "Road without Return" went on as the first issue , which not everyone who followed the main book series has read, and where Geralt does not appear at all, because it takes place before his birth. For connoisseurs, this is an important story, but starting with it is a disastrous business. At the end of the series, Andrzej Sapkowski gave the fans a gift - he wrote the story (but not the script itself) for the sixth comic, "Betrayal", which did not rely on any existing texts about the Witcher and talked about years of training in Kaer Morhen. Geralt and his friends from the witcher's school (whom we will not meet anywhere else) meet with the cocky students from the Cat's school, pass a special test, during which they need to find their way home with their eyes closed, and participate in the tournament. The intrigue is connected with the desire of King Radovit to strengthen control over witcher schools and to do this, shoot half of them. Geralt unravels this very intrigue, but too late. Until the very release of the series, Betrayal was the only source of knowledge about Geralt's youth. Sapkowski seemed to have authorized all six comics, but he apparently did it without looking - because "Betrayal" both in text and in the picture contradicted the material of the books (for example, there is another version of how Geralt's hair turned white), and then it became contradictory to the series. However, all the ingredients for a good prequel were in it - it's just that Matey Parovsky, the screenwriter of all six comics, was not a brilliant author, and where the original text does not help him, this is especially noticeable. The chronology, as you might imagine, was broken (the last comic book came out, which should have been the second), but since the stories are very loosely related to each other, they can be read in any order. In 2001, for the release of the film and the series, the singles were re-released in the form of two hard covers of one and a half hundred pages, finally putting them in order. In this form, comics gained much more fame, but, like the series, they caused a polar reaction from readers - someone was delighted, someone was horrified. Where the comics deviated from the book, nothing good came out. These comics looked like any Eastern European comics of the nineties. They immediately remind me of everything that came out with us in the same years. Sometimes technically, sometimes lazily, but more with love than with diligence. However, on the shelves of bookstores, "The Witches" stood next to "Conaniana" and the Moorcock cycles, so the style of the drawing is very appropriate - it puts the comic in the same place. 
In the wake of the hobby for a computer game, interest in this comic has returned, and an amateur translation can be found on RuNet (rather clumsy, for my taste). But the comic adds practically nothing to the material of the book, except for the thought "I didn't imagine it that way." The most valuable comic for Completists, "Betrayal", seems to me at the same time the weakest, and if you just now learned about its existence, skip it with a clear conscience. The next comic about the Witcher was released in 2011, called "The Good of the People" and was tied to the release of the game "Assassins of Kings". It could be bought as two singles or under one fifty-page cover. The release of "The Good of the People" was supervised exclusively by CDProject Red, the creators of the game, and was in no way associated with Sapkowski. The authors of the old comic had nothing to do with the new one either. They write that these are well-known comics artists in Poland - but, to be honest, I know nothing about the modern Polish industry. 
A new comic is drawn, like many one-off comics "just in case" - expensive and in some places even fancy, but without individuality. It all looks, especially during fights, like re-rendered clips from video games transferred to the page. Both the drawing and the color are pleasing to the eye, do not create confusion and are well immersed in the narrative, however, they do not add anything to it. The action of the comic takes place during the first Nilfgaardian war, but does not require knowledge of the books - except that the retelling of the events preceding the comic will become a mystery to the reader, but they do not affect what is happening. In terms of content, it is similar to the stories from the first and second volumes, only the new story is written taking into account the aesthetics of the game. Geralt takes a contract to kill the goblin and instantly becomes involved in the political interests of the local feudal lords - of course, the goblin turns out to be not the goblin, and most people do not want what they tell Geralt about. All this is a common thing for a white-haired witcher. The story ends with a lot of wasted blood. 
The story is well written, but more reminiscent of another chapter from a game than Sapkowski's work - there is practically no "message", as well as no particularly difficult moral choice, no character replicas that could be quoted, no postmodernist play with folk tales (which was obligatory component of the first volume). And all this brings us to the comic book from Dark Horse. Well, you already know everything about him. Who knows, maybe after the third part they will shoot the series, or a new movie - better than the old one, it will not be difficult to do.
