We take a sheet of white cardboard.
From the second same sheet, cut out several strips about one centimeter wide. These will be pockets for letters.

Block signal as an alternative to the cash register of letters and numbers.
Teaching a child to read requires quite a lot of effort and some material costs. A good assistant in learning has always been a set of letters and syllables, from which it was possible to add various words. It is called "Cashier of letters and syllables".
Cash desks of letters and numbers in an easy game form introduce the child to the basic elements of language and counting - letters, syllables and numbers, which he can compose into more complex structures, combine in different versions, rearrange and play, gradually understanding the basic patterns and creating the right combinations.
Of course, now a huge number of such cash registers are being sold, from plastic with magnets to wooden ones. Children are happy to work with them, but there is one drawback in them.They are all made according to the old model: standard - shallow, wide pockets, from which everything always falls out, as soon as the child makes one wrong move, or put the cash register at the wrong angle.
In addition, in these sets there are no cards for drawing up a word scheme.
And in the 1st grade, work on the sound composition of the word is carried out at each literacy lesson (reading and writing).
Therefore, more than 15 years ago, I was puzzled by the problem of creating a convenient and effective manual for first graders. I named it "Block Signal".
At first it was a common notebook on a "spring", which the parents of future first-graders cut in the summer in a certain way in the form of an alphabet book, drew word patterns, wrote letters and numbers. Hard labor!!! But the children worked with pleasure. Unfortunately, the first block signal was not preserved.
Over time, parents began to use a computer to make a block signal. They printed sheets with letters and numbers, cut them and fastened them. But the diagrams still had to be drawn. Here's what it looked like.
This academic year, teaching the next first-graders, I began to use modern block signals made in a printing house.
Naturally, I made some design changes.
1. Divided the manuals into two block signals (Russian language and mathematics).
2. In recent years, children who already know letters and can read come to grade 1, so there is no need to compose syllables and words from individual letters, therefore, in the block signal "Russian language" left only diagrams, increasing the number of elements (up to 7) .
For example, the scheme of the word "SCHOOLCHILDREN" looks like this. As you can see, you can make schemes for longer words.
3. In the "Mathematics" manual, you can perform calculations not only with single-digit, but also with two-digit numbers, because the number of constituent elements has also become 7.
I use the "Block Signal" textbook at any stage of the lesson: checking homework, primary assimilation of new knowledge, primary verification of understanding, application of knowledge and skills in a new situation, generalization and systematization of knowledge, checking the level of formation of students' general educational skills, control assimilation.
The main goal of this manual is the development of phonemic hearing, computational skills, logical thinking, intensive development of fine-coordinating hand movements (fine motor skills), improvement of visual perception and visual memory.
The use of the "Block-signal" also solves a number of important general pedagogical and psychological tasks that allow creating a comfortable educational environment for the first grader, positive motivation for learning. Children are not afraid to make a mistake, as they can quickly correct it, and already in the notebook complete the task correctly.
At school, the child learns to work, preparing for future tasks. Depending on the atmosphere prevailing in the school and the methods of education adopted, the child develops a taste for work or, on the contrary, a feeling of inferiority, both regarding the use of means and opportunities, and regarding his own status among his comrades.
The use of the "Block signal" in the lessons saves "precious" working time, provides students with the opportunity to independently or with the help of a teacher or other students compare their result with the standard, correct mistakes made and comprehend their causes.
I am very glad that the primary school teachers of our school use the "Block Signal" textbook when working in grades 1-2.

The booklet is a thick PVC cover, inside of which there are many pockets. In the pockets, in the process of working with the cash register, the children will insert letters and numbers on small cardboard cards. In this way it is very convenient to compose words or solve arithmetic examples.
In addition, such a booklet is good because, unlike fan cash registers, it is universal: usually, the set contains both letters and syllables, as well as numbers. And even if something is missing, you can always print or draw something yourself.

In the process of learning, there is also an acquaintance with the correct spelling of the words of the Russian language. This becomes another huge plus in education and helps your child learn grammar from the first grade.
When buying, parents usually notice that the cash register of letters of syllables and counting is made on 12 cardboard sheets, on which the necessary elements are located. Of course, some mothers and fathers begin to count their time needed to cut out each letter or number, but this is completely in vain, because the baby will do everything himself with great pleasure. Preparing this tutorial for use will be very fun and interesting, and will also teach the child to be more careful and patient.
